Jesus is the only begotten son of God, meaning that he is a direct creation from God. Jesus is the "firstborn" of all creation.--Colossians 1:15-17. So, through Jesus, everything else came into existence. Adam was also called a son of God.--Luke 3:38.

Adam was a Son of God too. Being created by God the way he was. And Adam was a body, soul & spirit.

Jesus is the seed of the woman (born of a virgin) conceived of the Holy Spirit. He also was a body, soul & spirit in His humanity. But also, Jesus is the Word of God who put on flesh & dwelt among us. Jesus was like the 1st Adam before the fall. Jesus didn't have the sin nature inherited by the man. So, Jesus was tempted like the first Adam, yet without sin. Because He was sinless, He raised from the dead. So the 1st Adam, we all have sin nature & die. Because of the last Adam, we who believe are all to inherit ever lasting life.

Adam was the first created son.....Jesus was not created but begotten. He existed from all eternity with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Adam did not.

Begotten means "being of he same godly essence" as the Father.

In contrast, Adam was merely a creature, made from dirt, by Jesus, who remains the only begotten Son of God.

God created Adam. Jesus was concieved through God by his holy spirit. Jesus was the only living human being ever concieved by the spirit of God.

Consider this first: What does it mean "to beget"?

People get very bored with the verses about "begetting". There are many places that go on and on about who begat who. "...and Abraham begat Isaac...." etc.
Although the term "son's of God" is used in other places (with various context), only Jesus is called the "begotten son".
We find in Genesis that Adam was "created in the image of God". However, Adam's sons were born in the image of their father, Adam.

Jesus, on the other hand, was born (begat) in the image of His father, the sinless, almighty creator God. Mary became pregnant without physical intercourse, impregnated "by the Holy Spirit". This is why Jesus is "God in the flesh". Since sin is, according to the Bible, passed from father to Son, Jesus was therefore born as a child without sin.
Adam was created as a man without sin, with the option to choose otherwise. Although God could have left Adam without that choice, He knew that humans could not fully understand good without some demonstration of evil. God knew He could force man to love Him, but then it wouldn't be real love. True love could only happen by totally free choice. After Adam chose sin, he repented and chose to love God. I assume God forgave him. ;)

In direct answer to your question: Adam is the literal "created" son of God. Jesus is the literal "born" son of God.

NOTE: Jewish leaders of that time considered this claim to Godhood the highest form of blasphemy, worthy of death, according to their own scripture. They did not understand their own scripture that promises that God would come to them "in the flesh".
If Jesus was not "the only begotten son of God" (God in the flesh), they did the right thing in killing Him for blasphemy. If He was God in the flesh, they killed the completely sinless, literal Son of God, the promised Savior. If He did not have the power to save Himself, He would not be God or a very good Savior. If He did have the power over death, and choose to be martyred in His sinlessness as our proxy; then He was the only one that could pay the price, in full, for our sins.

Does that make sense? That's the way I see it from the Bible. I could bore you with direct quotes if you desire.

Adam was called the son of God because he was created by Jesus who was commissioned by Jehovah to do so.
Much like an architect will get the credit for the design and creation of the building even though he never hammered in one nail, the carpenters did.

Muhammad is not a son of God. Jesus is The Christ and the only way to our Heavenly Father. Jesus lives!

May God Bless you.
