also, since this is a kids party, I can't spend too much. around $150..so the suggestion of 25 berets for $115 is really out :[

French Party Food

2016-10-31 08:36:46 · answer #3 · answered by manikas 4 · 0 0

food could be croissants and choices of ham, cheese, lettuce etc
cider or sparkling apple juice for champagne

The usual Eiffel Tower of course (cut out ) or the French Loire Valley theme with all the Castle including beautiful ChambordFrench Riviera, Cannes Film festival

film which takes place in France
3 musqueteers - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108333/
Rugrats in Paris the movie
Hunchback of ND

Or you could go for the fashion theme
games would be to design an outfit in teams using bits of fabric, make up wigs with a prize for all teams
they would also have to present themselves in French or make a few sentences using cut out words etc

other theme could be a restaurant chef and they have to put together a 3 course menu etc

music in the background would be old classic Juliette Greco, Barbara

Actually, very few ppl in France wear berets outside of the military. Lunch ideas: quiche (mini ones), crackers and cheese (Camembert-- you can get some made in Vermont, swiss cheese which is called Emmental Francais in France, but it still tastes like Kraft swiss cheese), ham and cheese sandwiches made with French bread, French pastries from your local French bakery, Orangina (I think that they make some in the US), etc. You can have a bday cake with the words "Bonne Anniversaire" (Happy Birthday) and her name on it. Movies? A 14 yo girl might like Casablanca. Not in France, but it is French themed and most girls like Humphrey Bogart.

I tried to think what French children of this age might do at a party and what they might eat.

Then I realized they'd be eating hamburgers and listening to French teen music (which isn't that different from American...except that its in French).

So okay that's reality but there are authentic French kid's things that you might do and food you might eat.

How about the French version of hopscotch called Escargot?

Draw a snail shape on the sidewalk about 6 feet in diameter. Divide it into fifteen to twenty boxes.

The first player must hop on one foot to the center of the snail (where she can rest) and out again without stepping on a line or setting down her other foot.

If successful, she can pick one box to initial as her "house." from then on, all other players must jump over her house, while she may use it as an additional resting spot.

Each player who completes a successful trip in and out of the snail gets to claim any free box. If a player steps on a line or sets her foot down, play passes to the next in line, and she does not claim a box.

The game continues until it is impossible for anyone to hop into the center space or until all spaces have someone's initials in them. The winner is the player with the most spaces.

If your kids didn't think that was too "lame" then try getting them to sing and act out this French children's song. The idea is that you name different people who are dancing on the bridge of Avignon and act out a gesture or act that they might do. (i.e. the ladies curtsy, the men bow, the Lord Mayor acts important, etc etc)

Sur la pont, d'Avignon (On the bridge of Avignon),
On y danse, on y danse (One dances there, one dances there),
Sur la pont, d'Avignon,
On y danse tous un rond (One dances there all in a circle).
Et les belles femmes font comme ca (And the beautiful women go like this) [repeat this line]

If you can get this far without a rebellion you can feed them. Try pan bagna, basically a tuna salad sandwich with lots of veggies on a crusty roll that's been wrapped up and allowed to sit so that the bread soaks up all the good flavors. Google it and you'll find lots of recipes.

You can also try the classic French kid's snack, bread and chocolate. its really a chocolate bar or chocolate spread with French bread.

For a movie I suggest The Red Balloon a French movie from 1956 about a 6-year-old and his best friend - a balloon that bops along with him to school and protects him from bullies. Its on a lot of critics lists of best children's movies ever.

Hope that helps.

for lunch food, you could serve any of these: bouillabaisse, couscous, crepes, pieces of french baguette with different kinds of cheeses, quiche, etc.

as for movies, i've heard that the french movie 'amelie' is good...maybe you could find it with english subtitles or dubbing?

for games, you could play boulle (i think that's how it's spelled) - it's a french game where you have a little wooden ball (called a "couchon"), and you toss it out, and then everyone has a set of bigger steel balls and whoever can toss one of their balls closest to the couchon wins! you can split everyone up into teams and have one kid from each team throw one of their team's balls once or do it individually where one person throws all the balls to try to get it closest to the couchon.
