I am attending college in New Orleans, I have been here three years. I am so upset that it has been a year and a half since Katrina and the city still looks a mess. No one is doing anything to change it. i am just a college student. Is there anything I can do?

I work with a volunteer center through the Hands On Network. I'm in New Orleans this week as well. They have programs for disaster relief specific to the Gulf Coast, and New Orleans areas. The national organization is working with the local affiliates. Here's some information on how you can get involved.

The Hands On Network has volunteer center affiliates throughout the world, and they provide a great service by connecting the local community with meaningful volunteer projects that meet the immediate community needs.

Good luck!

Finish college, then get a job in New Orleans. Without a good-paying job, you could never afford the housing down here after Katrina.

If you are here in New Orleans, you could volunteer with Common Ground, or the City Park Mow-Rons.

Steer away from it. Louisiana in general and New Orleans in particular are rife with graft and corruption. While Mississippi has made great strides in cleaning up and rebuilding after Katrina, New Orleans is still a shambles. Louisiana has $600 million of Federal money that has not been dispersed. Why? The answer lies in the corrupt state and local governments.

How do you help New Orleans? Don't add to her misery. The corruption will either lure you in or kill you. Don't become another victim.

Get out! Its a very corrupt city, naturally starting with the high officials there. They have mis-used millions of tax payers dollars and will keep on doing it as long as there's free handouts.
