I've given a lot of thought to that question, too. Recently I've decided to take a shaker to the hardware store & find an O-ring or some gasket or washer or seal that would simply fit....it has to be worth a try! I'll let ya know!

there really is no way...
the salt will creep into the openings and work it's way all around the screw threads of the cap and container.
But,,, here is something you might try. buy a salt shaker that fills from the bottom and has a cork to plug it up. then there won't be a screw cap for the salt to go into.

Personally, I think it is way better to keep salt in a salt box r cellar, or I have this cool egg-shaped Nigella thing. But if you insist on a shaker, rice

either dont have it in a salt shaker in the first place, get a different shaker, or tighten the lid if possible.

Add a tablespoon of uncooked rice to the container. when you shake it, it will help to keep the opening clear and will also keep the salt flowing in damp weather.
