I was dating a guy for about 2 months and I wasn't happy with the way things were going. When I was talking to him on the phone one night, he asked to see me the next day, and I said, "maybe we shouldn't see each other for awhile." I guess he took that to mean we were through, and he hasn't called me. It's been one week. He was really into me, I know, I just wasn't feeling it as strongly as he was and I thought I should get out before I got in too deep. He's very sweet and sensitive, and I feel awful that I hurt him. I want to talk to him again, but my friends say I shouldn't call him because it will confuse him. I'm pretty sure he's not "the one" but I do care about him, and I miss him. Did I handle this absolutely wrong? What should I do?

I mean, you were being honest, which was the right thing to do because it'd be wrong to drag him along if you weren't really feeling him. I don't know if you explained exactly how you were feeling to him or not, but if you didn't, that may have helped. But if you said it the nicest way possible, then you shouldn't feel bad about it. You didn't do it to intentionally hurt him, so you shouldn't feel bad.

I would have interpreted what you said to him in the same way. In any event, how you feel about him would be very confusing. I think you want to apologize for hurting him and it's nice that you feel that way, however, I am not sure whether that might confuse him also. I say that because girls absolutely do not want to hurt a guy's feelings or break their hearts, it's just that they are so good at it.
Your feelings are a little conflicted. To care about him and miss him and major components even in a friendship. Give yourself time to sort out your feelings and give himself time to heal.

unless you want to be with this guy, do not call him. it will confuse him. either that, or it will bring up emotions for you that he's put aside. calling him will hurt him.
