A few highlights through out your hair might be better than just doing the ends since you have layered hair. Try that and remember, If you don't like it, hair grows out!

If you want to have highlights, you must color strip your hair and then dye it. Since you have dark brown hair, the pink will not come out with the same intensity as it appears in the bottle/box. The pink will come out as a tint and it will be more visible in the light as a dark red. Considering you have layers, you might want to go to a salon. They can do bleach/strip your hair color, dye your tips properly (so it doesn't look like a straight line), or give you even highlights.

Depending on the dye brand/type of pink, it might change your decision. If it's something like cupcake pink, I'd suggest tips because that pink doesn't hold in the hair too well. You'll constantly have to redye it. If you have a hot pink or darker pink, go with the highlights because they're easier to maintain with the dye. Also consider the fact that highlights will require you to touch up with roots if you do go lighter. I think tips are cost efficient since you have a big jar of dye that's good for a while.

I bet the pink is a semi permanent color or temporary. Since your hair is on the dark side you will need to pre-lighten it first, this way the pink will show up if you do not pre lighten you will not see the pink at all!! pre-lighten w/bleach lift to a yellow or pale yellow IF you can get it that light, shampoo, condition, then do the pink, If you LOVE it, you may want to use a sealer/clear color to help hold the pink...it will fade fast, cool water rather than hot will also help hold the color.

My friend has super dark hair, and she uses pink dye in hers. No matter what you decide to do with it you have to bleach it first for it to work. This takes a long time with dark hair, trust me I'm the one that had to sit around and wait for the bleach to process with hers. She chose to have two streaks of it in the front almost like bangs, then got sick of that and did the whole lower half of her head. They both looked good, but the growing out process once she got sick of it took forever. Personally, I'd go with the tips, if you hate it you don't have to deal with growing it all out or attempting to match the bleached sections with the rest of your hair in the meanwhile. Then if you do like it, you can dye more of your hair, it's the safest way to go. Good luck!

(ron is gay and dumb)
pink is great! I'm not currently but I used to have pink tips.

I think it works a lot better as tips plus it's much easier to get rid of or change if you get tired of it.

I just seperated small pieces out and covered them then wrapped em in little pieces of foil to help develop and keep the rest of the hair not pink. :)
