Sub-question:

Did I just get a bad batch - or is Starbucks coffee supposed to be like that - or is Italian roast supposed to be like that?

Details: I got the Italian roast beans. When I brewed them at home, I was very disappointed. Italian is supposed to have a 'very intense' flavour. But it was tasteless - and totally lacked 'body'! The worst!

Note: I usually drink 'local' coffee (from Indonesia), which is a quarter of the Starbucks' price (but yet is superior in every way). I only went to SB because other shops were 'on holiday'.

More notes: Yes, I had tasted Italian roast before - when Starbucks first opened in my country.

My brewing methods? Both the Turkish method and the cloth strainer method (both of which give me an intense, espresso-like brew with my 'regular' beans - but not with SB).

Starbucks is so popular and makes claims to be VERY reputable. If I were you, I would take it back to Starbucks along with a sample batch of your regular coffee beans once you get them again and ask to speak to the manager on duty. Then I would ask, "Where does Starbucks say it ranks in terms of coffee quality?" If he/she says something like "at the top" or even "near the top", I would explain my concerns and ask them to taste test the two and let me know if what I got was just a bad batch or if their coffee is indeed sub-par to the one I drink.

I'm sure they will be more than happy to help you; but if not, mentioning that you are going to take this to the local media and Starbucks CEO surely would make them more than happy to help you figure this out. :)

If it comes down to it, you can always just drink your own coffee; who cares about what's "supposed" to be good? What's "good" is what YOU like. So this is what I recommend; that way you will know for sure. :)

I love Starbucks and the reason I do is that if you try a cup of coffee and don't like it they will make else for you. The best thing with Starbucks is to taste the coffee before you buy it. Did you try a cup of the Italian Roast from Starbucks before you bought it? If you didn't at least try it before you bought it its your own fault. However if you tried it and liked it then bought it from them it could be a bad batch which they should replace. Or you could be brewing it wrong. Just ask them. The manger of my local store is awesome. You walk in and the barista's know what your getting and have it made and ready for you by the time you get to the register.

espresso Bean. Starbucks serves countless the backside high quality espresso obtainable. they have the utmost dud bean count sort of any substantial espresso form (that makes it decrease high quality than even Folgers or Maxwell domicile.) once you get a mix, something this is no longer marked a hundred% Columbian or something like that, they use greater often than not low-fee Vietnamese espresso beans. Vietnamese beans are the main acidic beans, and lots much less flavorful than their S. American opposite numbers. to cover up for the awful style of their beans, Starbucks roasts their beans rather darkish. This makes people think of they're getting greater caffein. darkish roasting relatively can supply much less caffein. tremendously much each espresso save has greater valuable espresso than Starbucks, and mutually as you may like Fraps, that's an concept that's caught on with different espresso shops, too, so which you would be able to likely discover comparable beverages someplace else.
