There are 8 distilleries on Islay, Kilchoman, Bruichladdich, Bowmore, Bunnabhabain, Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Ardberg and Caol Isla. Islay Malts are distinctive for their heavy peatsmoke but the eight distilleries produce a wide range of products. The most heavily peated whiskies are the Lagavulin and Laphroaig with the Bunnabhabain being the lightest in terms of peating.
