Show your dad that you ARE responsible for taking care of the dog, feeding bathing, taking the dog out, training the dog ect. Your dad may very well change his mind. And yes petco does sell dogs. But I would suggest that you go to your local animal pound. They have many animals there and much cheaper.

NO Petco doesnt sell dogs, they have adoption days from local rescues and shelters. They come on certian days. They do not promote puppy mills so they dont sell puppies from there store. Check the papers and the bullitin boards they will have a schedule when the adoptions will be held. Usually they are on the weekends.
To show your dad you are responsible, make some deals with him, say you will do something everyday, for several months. take out garbage, vollenteer work, cleaning the bathroom. Do it consecutively for say 3 to 5 months with out complaint or being told to do so. See if he will bite at that. He may not think your ready and he may not want one period. Dogs have to be a family choice not just yours. I know its very hard to deal with if dad just doesnt want a dog. You can do your own research, get some breeds info that would be great for your family life. Do a extensive report complete with pictures, the pros and cons, the health benifits of having a dog, the research of the finacial strain verses the happiness of the dog. Write out a draft of a type of contract with your dad saying you will walk the dog, feed the dog, and clean up the dogs poop. If that doesnt convince your dad your ready for a dog, then i dont know what is.

It is going to be very difficult to persuade your Dad to get a dog for you. Dogs are major responsibilities in life, and require lots of time and attention. They have to be walked several times per day, no matter what the weather. They have to be fed on a schedule each and every day, they have to have a clean and warm place to sleep.
They also need to have yearly, of not twice yearly check-ups at the vet. They also need to have shots in order so that they do not get sick, they may need to have special medications if they become ill. This can be hundreds of dollars per year, at the least.
I really wanted a dog when I was a young person also, I can remember practically begging my parents; but the answer was also no, and ultimately until you are an adult, that is your Dads decision to make.
You need to sit down with your Dad and discuss the actual reasons why he is saying "No." Generally a big fat no has to have a lot of meaning and reasoning behind it. There are rules and regulations in many areas governing pet ownership, and that may be part of his reasoning. Good luck and have a good night.

Provided your vet checked your dog out - including his chest/lungs, he's probably right. In the most healthy dogs, this bug usually runs its course. It's serious in the young and the old, but if your dog is basically healthy I'd imagine he'll be fine. I would say that in the UK this year, KC has been all over the place and a lot of vets are giving a routine course of antibiotics (broad spectrum) as a preventative to it developing into something worse. But in truth, you can't actually treat KC - it's a virus. You can only treat the symptoms. Please keep your dog away from any other dogs/doggy area for a few weeks yet. And if he seems worse, get back to your vet (leaving your dog outside in the car!!).

If he says no, then that means no. If you got one that he didn't want, there'd be tension between him and the dog big time. Especially with puppies, they need to be accepted by everyone in their household. They are a ton of work. Petco doesn't sell dogs, but its not a good idea to get dogs from cheap places like that. The puppies are basically mass produced and sold. A lot of them have defects that take expensive surgery to fix. Get one from a shelter, a lot of good, living dogs come from shelters.

Well my little brother persuaded my mom by making her feel sorry for him. lol. That might work. Just tell him that you will pay for everything that might grab his attention. And just keep on talking to him. About petco I'm not sure about them but i do know petsmart has like certain days of the week you can go and adopt puppies/dogs.

For starters petco does not sell dogs. I'm sure you already tried it but you might try and convince him that you will take care of the dog and he won't have to worry about that. Then if he lets you have one you have to prove it so he doesn't make you get rid of it.

Why doesn't he want you to have a dog? Does he hate dogs? Is he allergic to them? Did you have one in the past but didn't take care of it like you should? If he won't let you have one, you can always volunteer to walk a neighbor's dog. Offer to pet-sit when they go out of town. So it'll be like your own dog but you won't have to pay for it. Do you have any elderly neighbors who can't get out much but have a dog that you can walk?

You aren't allowed to buy a dog from petco as they are rescue dogs and you are not 18(I presume) you would have to have your parents signature.
