I am having a problem. I can see, but not far away like doctors say "most people should". I was thinking about getting contacts, like the Avue etc., but I don't know if we have to have been wearing glasses before getting them. Does anyone know?

No, you don't have to be wearing glasses. Glasses are just another option to correct bad vision. If you want to wear contacts, you will need to go an Optometrist and ask for a contact lens exam. They will measure your eyes and make contacts that fit your eyes perfectly. You should still get a pair of glasses though. You should rest your eyes at night or when you are at home. It is not good to wear the contacts 100% of the time.

One more thing, PLEASE don't get those ugly colored contacts. They look sooooooo fake.

you do not have to wear glasses before you start wearing contacts... i personally love my contacts waay more than glasses because they make me feel more like me than like i'm weird with glasses.... i hardly ever wear my glasses even before i got contacts (i was a bad girl) i know some people that have gone straight to contacts without getting glasses.... you just have to be sure you're ready to handle the responsibility and hassle of contacts....when you're going from no eye care to contacts it's a big change... you will probably want to get glasses though because at night when you take your contacts out then you need to be able to see so the glasses come in handy....also the first week the eye doctor will have a set schedule for wearing your contacts so in order to see the rest of the time you'll need glasses....hope this helped...good luck

If after an exam by an optometrist it is decided that you need corrective eye wear you can go directly to wearing contacts, unless of course there is some problem that would prevent you from using them, such as extreme dry eye. You may want to consider getting a pair of glasses as back up though just in case you cannot wear your contacts for any reason. Some people also need some time to adjust to having contacts in, it can feel odd or even slightly irritating if you are not used to them. If you happen to be one of these people you can use your glasses as a back up.

You don't have to wear glasses at all. In fact my son just got contacts and glasses and he wore his contacts for two weeks before we even got him the glasses!

No , you don't have to wear glasses first. You do need to see if you're able to be fitted for them, and this can be done at your eye appointment.
