A lot of it is done through diet, and it's more through avoiding bad foods than anything.

Avoid orange juice. It's very acidic. Also avoid too much fish.. specifically sardines and salmon. There is something in fish that aggravates gout. Avoid red meat. Also, if you drink alcohol, stop doing so.

On the other hand, eating cherries and strawberries helps gout.

I've not heard this from anywhere official, but it seems reasonable to me that drinking lots of water would help cleanse your system. I'd look that one up before I took it as gospel, though.

Gout is a condition where uric acid crystals build up in the body.
This can happen in the area of the big toe and cause a lot of pain.
Our foods contain purines; some foods are higher in this than others.
The doctor may place you on a lower purine diet (of which they will usually provide you a list of foods to avoid. There is also medications that can lower the uric acid in the blood
Here an alternative way to cure gout?

One of the effective ways to cure gout is by using cherries or cheery juice. Cherries are known for their anti-inflammatory properties may help reduce the amount of uric acid in the body and keep it from settling into joints which will cause the pain of gout. You can use canned cherries or fresh cherries and it does not matter if you use sour or sweet cherries. All cherries have been reported to be a natural gout cure. The recommended amount of cherries to consume a day is between ten cherries and up to one half pound. There are others who prefer to use cherry juice concentrate (1 tablespoon per day) and it is also effective in curing gout.

Diet is important and can be used as a natural gout cure as well. Purines consumed in the diet account for about 50% of the uric acid produced in the body. Therefore, a low purine or modified purine diet may help gout improve and prevent future gout attacks. A low purine diet consists of eliminating the following high purine foods from the diet: organ meats, sweetbreads, brains, kidney, meat gravies, meat extracts, scallops, wild game, mackerel, herring, anchovies and sardines. In addition, only one serving of the following foods are allowed per day in a low purine diet: dried beans and peas, asparagus, cauliflower, spinach, mushrooms, poultry, meat or fish.

If your father knows he has gouty arthritis, is he not already under a doctor's care? There is no cure, quick or otherwise, only management. This is a disease asociated with an inborn error of uric acid metabolism. But there is another form, acquired gout, that has all the same signs and symptoms but results from another disorder or from the treatment for another condition. For example, diuretics can cause this because they alter the composition of uric acid so that it leaves the blood and settles in the joints. Treatment includes colchine, phenylbutazone, indomethacin, glucocorticoids and a diet that excludes purine-rich foods such as organ meats. There are other foods high in purines that you can identify by running a search for "purine-rich foods".

Anti-inflammatory drugs like Ibupofen and steroids like cortisone, or colchicine ease the pain in the short term. But avoiding foods high in uric acid-producing chemicals is the most helpful thing for gout. Organ meats, spinach, caulifower, mushrooms, gravies and other meat extracts, alcoholic beverages and some legumes can produce high levels of uric acid. Blueberries, salmon, tofu, nuts and lots of water help reduce uric acid and so eliminate gout.
