Okay, first of all I'd decided whether you want an up-do or down.

I say you check out a search engine and click on images and type in "Prom Hairstyles" this will give you a variety of images and maybe help you with an idea of what you like. Then if or when you find a hairstyle that you like, you can either take the picture to a salon or do it yourself.

And if you decide to go to a Salon, I suggest you make an appointment weeks ahead of Prom. Beacause salons have a tendency to get booked and you want to make sure you can get in!

If you really want to stand out adn are in for romantic urban look, I would choose a wonderful fashion gown (not regular prom dresses, but light) and compliment it with nice braided hair, like these:
