The 4.0L SOHC V6 engines are EXTREMELY sensitive to vacuum leaks. The slightest leak will cause the engine to run rough. You can try replacing the usual spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter etc. But, that won't fix the rough running concern if you rubber intake gaskets are leaking, or PCV hose is pinched/cracked causing a vacuum leak and lean codes P0171 & P0174. You may also have a dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor, which would certainly cause a stuttering symptom like you describe. Hope this helps.

Depends upon what you call stuttering?
If it only does it at the same exact speed (such as one time at about 40 mph) I would be looking at a transmission problem first.
Without anymore information, it's very hard to give you ideas..
Rakel is right on the vaccum leaks with the SOHC being the worst as you can't hear a vaccum leak on that 4.0 engine (there were 2 4.0's .. a overhead valve and a single overhead cam model)
also you may have a coil or plug wire breaking down causing some issues (which I think may be your problem)

A tune up ay? and what all did your tune up consist of man . just checking because some ppl just dont do it all !
anyways, what im getting @ , hoping you changed changed the fuel filter,
Stuttering , if the car has a considerable amount of miles on it , im guessing there is quite a bit of carbon build up , i have heard seafoam works good/ valvoline products work very well from my experience,
Put a fuel injector cleaner the gas tank
take air filter hose off connecting to throttle body and use carb. cleaner to clean the throttle body, especially behind it by simply applying throttle well vehicle is off, this allows room behind it.
run cleaner through a vacuum line (which will run through the injectors, intake, cylinders, etc.)
may solve it , def. wont hurt it . Hope that helps a little

nicely at the starting up its a ford..ford isnt that really tremendous of a sort. yet i wager you should claim that higher vehicles are safer, yet no longer continually. nicely explorers have continually been conventional to roll over, so that you would ought to placed sway bars interior the front and reduce back, and which will restore that. once you commence getting the miles up there, it is going to commence to have some issues...its no longer truly that tremendous of a vehicle..yet ok. there are wayyy extra appropriate vehicles for a usual vehicle than an explorer...try some thing smaller and that receives extra appropriate mileage :)

You need to have it put on a engine analyzer, that's the only way to know for sure what the problem is .Check with your local parts store and see if they have one to hook up,its pretty easy, sometimes they will even show you if you don't know how.Good luck

sounds like a fuel problem.NOT a firing problem.lest you put the plugs in and wired it wrong.check your fuel filter for blockage .then the fuel pump....it may be giving out.maybe the injectors have to be replaced.theres no easy answer to this question.it could be anything fuel or electrical.
