My dog always eats my cats food. We scold her, put her outside, tell her no, but nothing seems to work, she does it anyway. She is not underfed, the vet said she is perfect. We have tried putting my cats food in a seperate room but we cant always remember to close the door, and somehow somebody leaves it open and my dog gets in. What are some ways to leave food available for my cat without my dog getting into it?

Either put the cat's food out of the dog's reach or feed them at separate times and put the dog outside while the cat is eating. It's a jealousy thing. That's why the dog does it. It's not because he's hungry. It's to keep the cat from having it. Oh, and by the way, scolding the dog for eating it will only make it worse. You are scolding the dog for something that dog doesn't know any better than to do.

I feel cats should be treated just like dogs. First, feed your cat and dog at the same time. Second, leave the dog and cat food down for 30 minutes, if they don't eat the food pick it up and put it in the fridge and feed them the next day. This way the dog has no time to eat the cat food.

Try to seperate the cats food into a different room and your dogs in another if your dog refuses than put your cats food some where that your dog cannot reach then he should give up than put your dog in another room so the cat can eat its food and if that still does not work try another dog food.

Something about catfood is like a treat to a dog. The only way that I found to keep the dog out of the cat's food was to put the food out of the dog's reach. I chose on top of the dryer. It was the most sanitary and easily accessible to the cat. I have a friend who put up a platform to feed her cat on that the dog couldn't reach.

Other than putting the food higher out of the dogs reach, I don't think there is a way to train the dog not to eat it.

Must seperate the food or animals, only choice. Or place cat food in a location only the cat can get too. Try a box that is weighted down but only has an opening big enough for the cat to enter. Might work. Even an upside down laundry basket that has a hole cut in it would work. Just weigh it down or something so the dog can't move it and cause a mess.

Obviously you need to put the cat food up high where the dog can't reach it. Do not ever hit your dog on the nose or any other animal for that matter...if you injure the olfactory senses there is a good chance the animal will not eat, ever again!

One thing to keep in mind, dogs can't process the high levels of protein in cat food & can cause early arthritis.

We have the cat food up high where our dogs can't get to it. The cat has learned to jump up to get to the bowl. We also taught the cat to get off after she's done eating. Cats are smarter than a lot of people think. They can be taught pretty easily. And I don't care how full the dog bowls are, dogs will eat whatever is in their reach. They'll eat the cat food before they dig into their own food.
Good luck!! :)

Put the food on a counter/table where the cat can jump to, but the dog can't reach.

Put the cats food actually out of reach from your dog (height wise). Cats are able to jump almost any height to get there food. We have ours on top of one of those freezers that look like there on their side. And our dogs aren't eating it any more, and our cats can get up there fine!
