I want to fly to Germany this summer. My 3 pound Chihuahua is so very into me and scarred of other people. Plus I don't have anybody whom I could leave my dog with. I heard that some Airlines allow small dogs underneath the front seat as hand baggage. But it might only be for short distances in the US?

I'm sorry to be brutal, I know some people love their animals more than they have concern for others, but the idea of being on an intercontinental flight sitting next to a yapping little dog, (air pressure changes affect animals and babies too, that's why kids scream on planes and dogs yap), should be enough to ensure that no animals are allowed on such flights. You will just have to do what everyone else does and buy an air kennel and see the mutt the other end

I really doubt if dogs, even one as small as yours is allowed inside the cabin on long flights. But if you do wish to take your dog (in cargo) with you, be sure to check regulations not only in Germany, but the United States as well, as many countries have quarantine periods dogs and other animals must go through when they arrive from other countries, also be sure you have your dog's vaccinations and records up to date. I was on a flight recently where a German Shepard rescue dog was allowed on the flight, when a passenger loudly complained, he was told the dog was staying and he could take another flight if he didn't like it.
Good luck.

I have been told that most flights won't even allow seeing dogs to get on board anymore b/c of flight regulations, they too must go below. They escort the individual to the gate. Sorry, but if you fly shorter flights you can see him in between. LIke NY to London is only like 6 hrs. And London to frankfurt germany is only about an hour... I've done it. Hope this helps. Good luck and have fun!

PS If you really don't want him to go below, it might be best for both involved to board him.

I don't know who any of these other answerers are, but I haven't been on a flight in 15 years that doesn't have a dog in the cabin.

Check with the different airlines, or try a travel agent - lots better than asking random cyber-strangers here.

in the journey that your dogs is under 15 lbs you will pay a small value and have him holiday in the cabin with you. If he's over 15 lbs he will ought to flow in the shipment section. the final thank you to verify specific airlines policies and expenses you will might desire to call them or look it up online as airlines are continuously changing those policies. final time I checked Delta and American had the final policies. you will additionally desire an airline authorized in-cabin bag. Your community puppy shop might have them.

I don't know of any airlines that will allow pets in the cabin, especially after 9/11 security measures. You would need to board it below the plane. Most airlines allow you to put your pet in a kennel below.
