I got a DVD-RW and I was trying to burn a show I downloaded so that I can watch it from my DVD player instead of from my monitor. I was using the full version of Nero but for some reason - I guess my setting's messed up or something - it would burn the show, I can watch it from my computer but it won't even play on my DVD player. Anyone familiar with Nero Burning? What do I need to do so that it'll play on my DVD player?

Assuming it's not DRM protected, the proper way to burn a computer video file that will work on a stand-alone DVD player is with DVD authoring software. Video CD might work as Jarhead suggested but that's not the standard way of doing it. And you obviously can't just burn any video file and expect stand-alone DVD players to play them for TV viewing.

Bascially the video must be formatted in the same format as DVD-ROM movies. You need another piece of software to do this. Nero sells one called NeroVision. I use one from InterVideo called WinDVD Creator. It's quite easy to use, it not only authors DVDs but burns them too, and has some video editing capabilities as well.

Because DVDs have regional settings. If you download a movie make sure it is formatted for your region. Some of the expensive (name brand) DVD players will not play DVDs from other regions. Some of the cheaper DVD players apparently do not have regional settings so they will play them just fine.

When I download movies here in the web usually it is in AVI format. What I do is first convert it using WINAVI (try to find it, explore the web) then I convert it into to DVD format then after that I use NERO to burn my video files. I think NERO could directly convert it to DVD format but it takes time (depends if your PC is fast or slow). Then I could watch it now onto my DVD player. :)

Oh..WINAVI convert video files into different formats.
