I am currently whitening my teeth at home using a kit. Can the gel damage my gums? I put a little too much in the tray last nights and now the edges of my gums are white. Is it just a temporary discoloration or did I damage them?

Yes, it can cause pain, it will not whiten them, it will kind of chap them. Make sure to rinse your mouth thoroughly when you take the gel out.

I tried this before a few years ago.
the white on your gums if from the peroxide....try it! any part of your skin you leave peroxide on for that amount of time will turn white!
But with home kits, the peroxide eats at your tooth enamel and makes them weak, suseptible to cavities right at the top and bottoms of your teeth near the gum line....sure! it looks good now! but you'll be visiting the dentist to have it fixed in the near future....why not just spend the money now and let the dentist do it for you before you do anymore damage?

Yes it can. When you use whitening anything it makes your gums more sensitive and prone to diseases like gingivitis. But most people just care about white teeth and don't care about there teeth rotting.

It's temporary, but if it really hurts you are supposed to stop for a week, and then continue at half pace. Never use more than one kit per year, even if it says otherwise.
