If you are 5'6" and athletic, then 135 lbs is probably perfectly fine. In fact, you very well may be in much better shape than most people.

Here's a tip that I give to a lot of people: Don't focus on your weight. Don't focus on your BMI (lots of people, including of of the other responders here, recommend BMI, but BMI doesn't factor in how much muscle you carry). Focus on percent bodyfat. If you have a gym or someplace where this can be tested, that's the best way to tell whether you need to drop a few pounds.

Hope this helps! Oh yeah, and don't be self-conscious--just lead a healthy lifestyle and be happy!!! :-)

Well here's something to calculate the Body Mass Index. How much fat vs muscle. Try it. The BMI Standard are on the bottom after the calculation.

BMI is calculated by the following formula: weight in kg / height in m2. If you're not familiar with kilogram and meter measurements, follow the steps below to calculate your BMI.

Step 1. Take your weight (in pounds) x 705

Step 2. Divide that number by your height (in inches)

Step 3: Divide that number by your height (in inches) again

Example: Woman who is 5’3” and weighs 135 lb.

Step 1. 135 lb. x 705 = 95175

Step 2. 95175 / 63” = 1511

Step 3. 1511 / 63” = 24

BMI = 24

BMI Standards

Underweight < 18.5
Healthy weight 18.5-24.9
Overweight 25.0-29.9
Obese I 30.0-34.9
Obese II 35.0-39.9
Obese III 40+

When I calculated this you are within a healthy weight.

I'm the same height and weight... I'm really self conscious as well, but I'm beginning to realize that it's not how much you weigh that really matters, it's just how toned you are.

I have pretty strong arms and abs, and that ends up weighing more. I wouldn't worry about it too much.. do some pilates if you really wanna lose weight or build more muscle.. it's a great exercise.

Your weight is perfect for your height. Don't be self-conscious about having muscles. Men generally like a well toned body.

Sounds good to me... really you shouldn't focus so much on what the scale says... its just one of many numbers that are used to determine if you are a healthy weight.

No it's in the range of healthy. If you are muscular even more so. I suggest not focusing on the weight/ number of pounds. Focus on how you look and feel.

That is very good for your height. I'm 5'2", and my doctor told me that the lowest I should weigh is 120 because of my muscle mass.
