The House of Representatives at least managed to pass a nonbinding resolution disapproving of the Bush administration’s plans to send 21,500 additional troops to Iraq.
But last weekend, with the Senate called into a special Saturday session, Republicans used undemocratic procedural tactics--the same ones they railed against the former Democratic minority for even mentioning, much less using--to block a vote on a similar measure.
But even if the Senate could manage a vote on the nonbinding resolution passed by the House, there’s another problem with it. It’s nonbinding.
If any of the politicians really cared about “supporting our troops,” they would fight to bring them home right now.

Polls that ask leading questions to get a specific responses not Representative of the American people. How many polls have you seen showing one presidential candidate would win ,and it totally goes the other way?The question I have not seen asked is do you want to concede defeat , or try Bush's plan.I would guess about 95% would say try Bush's plan. The problem is the Democrats have take ownership of defeat, they must have defeat or they are done!!!!!!!!!!!!

California (the leader of the Nation) and the state that Nancy PLousy resides overwhelmingly voted for the war (based on the theory that if a Dem won it meant the people were against the war) and because of the fact that California leads the Nation, PLousy needs to listen to her people and shut up.
By the way no one asked me, or anyone else I know anything about how I felt about the police action in Iraq.
And not allowing reinforcements is cause to send you to live in San Francisco or some other communist country.

First of all I'd like to know where you get this 2/3 horse squeeze at. I sure seem to hear this figure thrown out there like a grenade anytime a liberal wants to make a point and yet I have never seen any pole numbers come even close to that figure except maybe in the OJ Simpson trial. But then you've answered your own question if you had really given it any thought. The fact that the resolution was non binding and that the Democrat's haven't done squat to "bring the boys home" proves that there isn't the support that you claimed right out of the gate. Two thirds my @ss.

Maybe because there are still a few people in Congress who are smart enough not to run national policy off of opinion polls?
For 8 years we had a President who followed opinion polls instead of acting in the national interest - 9/11 was the result.
And the fact of the matter is that when the consequences of losing the Iraq war come back to haunt us - people like yourself will be asking why our elected leadership was too busy listening to opinion polls to do what needed to be done.

I think that Americans oppose the way the war is being handled by the president and that "awesome" congress we have. A majority of Americans still want to win the war. I am not totally convinced that they are against the war the way the press makes it seem.

if we brung our troops home RIGHT NOW all hell would break loose. the iraqi troops don't have the manpower and the equipment. In a day that we leave the iraqis would get gunned downed by the terrosits or whoever.

Congress can do just about anything it wants to.To me the resolution meant nothing and would have still meant nothing even if it had passed. It was all posturing. A complete waste of time.

Considering the mess you guys made there, the only moral thing to do is stay there and try and clean it up. Many arab leaders have said that if America pulls out, it will launched an all out civil war and millions will die.
