Well, it depends on what your definition of living is. If you are looking for a Church directed by a living Jesus Christ who can still speak to a living prophet administrated by living Apostles and living Priesthood leaders, that would be the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. By the way, I also lived in the Tempe/ Mesa area and am mystified by the answerer who said the Mormons there don't claim to be Christians. We are Christians because we believe in Jesus Christ as the Divine Son of God, the Redeemer and Savior of the world, the Only Begotten of the Father, the Messiah. Have a happy day, and I send you a gummy bear.

I've been a lifelong member (as has several generations of my family on both sides; even had some ancestors - my three greats-grandfather and his parents live two houses down from Joseph Smith & family in Nauvoo!). When I was younger, I did kinda wonder a bit. How does one KNOW that the Church is true? You always hear about it from other members, but how do you know for yourself? Then, when I was 15, I was at Scout summer camp, and it was raining hard the first part of that week (unusual for that part of California in July), and my tent partner and I said a prayer Tuesday night that the rain would let up so that we could have a good time. Then, I felt it. An overwhelming peaceful sensation that everything would be all right. I'd never felt anything like it, but it was right along the lines of the feelings others said they'd experienced when they felt the Holy Ghost. I've felt the Holy Ghost three other times since then (including one time when I was with the missionaries when they had a woman and her young daughter pray, in accordance with Moroni's challenge, to know if the Book of Mormon was true; the feeling of the Holy Ghost bearing witness of its truthfulness was so thick you could almost cut it with a knife!), but that was the first, definate time I KNEW for myself it was all true. (And yes, just for the record it stopped raining at scout camp early the very next morning, and we all had a blast the rest of the week!) I think the Church has made a very posative impact on my life, and the life of my family. I honestly don't know where I'd be right now if it wasn't for the Church and its teachings. I think I'm a much more caring and giving person than I'd be otherwise. I'm also kind of saddened by some of the negative things said about the Church (the important thing to remember is that the vast majority of the anti-Mormon stuff you'll enounter in places like this aren't even remotely true, or, while technicaly correct, are deliberately misrepresented by people outside the church to make it seem like it's saying something completely different than what's actually meant). I wish I could share those good feelings from the Holy Ghost (to say it's a warm fuzzy feeling doesn't even begin to do it justice) with those people, so they, too, could know of the Church's truthfulness with as much conviction as I do. The knowledge that God loves you and cares about you is one of the most amazing things you'll ever experience! If you have questions, by all means ask! Ask the missionaries, ask other LDS people you know off-line, ask the LDS people here. We're always happy to tell you about what we believe and why we believe it.

No, they are not. There is no church the is the "only true church of Jesus Christ". Your church may do a lot of great things, but so does other churches. If you read the Bible, as much as you read your Book of Mormon ,you would know that the LDS is not even a Christian church.

No.

The Mormon church teaches many things that contradict the Bible. They are not the same church as the one built by Christ (Matt. 26:28) because they do not teach the same things.

Mormons teach that there are latter day revelations. The Bible says, "Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." (Jude 3)

Mormons teach that an angel gave Joseph Smith the Book of Mormon. They call the Book of Mormon "another Testament". The Bible says, "I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." (Galatians 1:6-9)

The Book of Mormon teaches that believers were called "Christians" in 73 BC. (Alma 46:15) The Bible says that the desciples were called "Christians first in Antioch". (Acts 11:26) This was about 41 AD.

The Book of Mormon talks about the church also in Alma 46:15. According to the Book of Mormon this was about 73 BC. About 100 years later though, Jesus said "I will build my church" (Matthew 16:18). This means that the church was yet to be established in the future. (It was established shortly after Christ rose from the dead. (See Acts 2.)

Mormons call young, unmarried men "Elders". The Bible says an Elder must be the husband of one wife (1 Timothy 3:2, Titus 1:6) and have children that believe (1 Timothy 3:4, Titus 1:6).

The book of Mormon teaches Jesus was to be born at Jerusalem (Alma 7:10). The Bible teaches Jesus was born in Bethlehem. (Micah 5:2, Matthew 2:1)

The Book of Mormon teaches that Melchizedek reigned under his father. (Alma 13:18) The Bible teaches his priesthood was without father. (Hebrews 7:3)

Mormons teach that one person can be baptized for another who has already died. Jesus taught "He that believes and is baptized shall be saved". (Mark 16:16) "He... shall be saved". Not he is baptized and someone else shall be saved. We will each be judged by what we have done, not on the basis of what someone else has done. (2 Cor. 5:10)

The Book of Mormon teaches that at Christ's death, darkness covered the land for three DAYS. (3 Nephi 8:19-23) The Bible says it was three HOURS. (Matthew 27:45, Mark 15:33, Luke 23:44)

Mormons teach that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and that Joseph Smith translated it into English with the help of God. On the introduction page of the copy I have, there is a statement that "some minor errors" have existed in past editions that were corrected in this publication. If it were God's word and translated with the help of God, then how did it have any errors, no matter how "minor"?

Also, if there are or were minor errors, how can the book be trusted to be correct in things that relate to showing us the way to serve God and be saved?

The mormons teach another gospel, from another testament. The Bible is sufficent for the church and we need no other testament. Mormons denigh this. They are not content to follow only the scriptures that were once dilivered for all saints (Jude 3). If they don't follow only the instructions given to the early church, how can they be the same church now?

The early church was the true church. Mormons follow another doctrine, therefore they are another church.

I was told that was the Catholic church.

Then again I had a baptist minister tell me that his religion was it.

I think these religions play a game of tag every other week and so you just got to keep up with the game.

I personally do not have a religion. Nor do I have anything against them (cough). It is just a personal Faith issue I gots. And I'm gonna stick to it until the day I die.

And from there, who knows...

The Mormon Church is a perfect example of modern Christian hypocrisy. If Christians believe that God spoke all those years ago, why not now? I don't believe he ever spoke, but If I was Christian, I would be unable to prove that he was no longer speaking.
If you're a Christian, you have no defense against Mormon beliefs.

In their beliefs they believe their church is true. They do not believe all of the other Churches are all wrong, they believe they have been through apostasy and lost a lot of the original truths that Christ had taught.

Edit:
I gotta agree with Derek.

Only if you believe Jesus was kidding when he founded his church, authorized and empowered it, and promised to bless it and keep it, until the last day.

And only if you really believe that the LDS folks have added anything of truth or of value to the authentic and traditional Christian faith.

And if you believe either of these, you've probably already been deceived.

NOT at all. They are not even close to matching what the first century churches were like in Acts. Have a great week.

no i do not. and for derek v.--LDS could not possibly be today's christian hypocrisy because the LDS do not claim to be christian, therefore making it impossible. I live in Mesa, AZ and live amongst a strong LDS community and they make it very, very clear they are not christian, they are LDS/mormon. I married into a family whom are LDS and they truly do not claim nor will they ever claim to be christian...
