I am wondering if there are any federal grants or programs that help families that take care of ailing parents in our home.

I take care of this sort of person in a group home setting. Most families that I know of go through the Department of Aging, the local Health Department, or Department of Families and Children for assistance. I hope that this is helpful, and I think you're doing a wonderful thing by caring for him yourself, rather than sending him to a nursing home.

First off, I think what you are doing is a great thing, as much as it cost for 1 resident in a Nursing home goes for about 5 grand a month, now if you call Social security and places like Ombudsman in the yellow pages they may be able to help you both, so that a CNA can come in and care for him whiel your both away working, they also have adult Day care centers where the loved one goes during the day its a good thing really, anyway look into it and yes I believe there are grants you just need to do research. look on the internet

Sorry but in most places that is a burdon the family must bear. Out side of Social Security there is not program to help the elderly or families that care for them. Its called being family. If he is in your way there are state homes I think but if you are able they will make you pay something

Hi, you should be able to receive a payment called Attentive Care this is something that's covered under insurance here in Canada. And you get paid for all that you do for the person your caring for.

Hope this help.

Try www.alz.org. They will know what's available for you. Also, they can send over people to relieve you sometimes, and they will also know of support groups so you can get out or so you can get him out of the house.
