i dont know what my deal is. i get shocked almost every time i touch something. My bedpost, the shower nozzle, a shopping cart...sometimes i go to kiss my boyfriend and ill zap his nose with mine and it hurts like hell! and if its dark you can see the spark! i am definitely not made of metal. so how can i stop conducting so much electricity?

Humans are mostly water, and water is an excellent conductor of electricity.

If you're looking to cut back on the amount of static electricity you're experiencing, buy a humidifier. Static electricity occurs in dry conditions, so if you increase the humidity in your house, you should be OK. I have a humidifier connected to my furnace, and I almost never experience static electricity in the house.

As far as places outdoors (your car, shopping carts, etc.), there's not much you can do about that....other than wait for winter to end. Winters typically have dryer air -- again, condusive to static electricity.

Static Electricity is due the the transfer of electrons from one body or group of atoms to another. Atoms carry electrons in their outer shell, electrons can easily be transferred from one thing to another through touch (esp. rubbing). Your problem is you constantly gain too many electrons by contact with things that transfer these electrons to a greater degree. When you touch something that has a low concentration of electrons, they jump from your body to the object, resulting in a shock. They jump because the atoms in your body want to have a neutral charge, not a negative one due to excess electrons. As others have mentioned, stop wearing wool and don't rub against things like carpet, car seats, sheets...ect. Also, get a humidifier to moisten the air around you, that way you are less prone to attract extra electrons. Use lotion as well. ~hope I helped!~
