I don't think anyone would be able to capture your feelings in a poem for you. No one knows/knew your dog like you do/did. You have no idea how healing just writing about your beloved pet can be until you start writing.

If you have reservations about writing, remember poetry doesn't have to rhyme to be good poetry. It just has to speak to or emotionally reach the reader. Write about what you loved about your dog. Write about how he greeted you when you got home every day. Write about what you will miss most about him. Even write about your favorite shoe that he chewed up and how mad that made you. Write about how it felt to groom him, whether that meant him giving you a bath when you thought you were giving him one, or just getting on the floor to brush him after a good romp outdoors. Write about how his barking drove you up the wall or how he never barked unless you commanded him to. You can do this. If you want an audience of critics after you write it, post it here and we'll all help you with it.

By the way, my sincere condolences on the loss of your dog. I know how empty that spot in your heart can feel. Time will heal it.

I'm sorry about your dog. It's a very sad time. I think it's great that you're making a slideshow. I recently read the book "Marley & Me" by John Grogan. It's about a young family and the life of their yellow lab.I definitely recommend it to anyone who has ever loved a dog. It goes from birth through death. It was very touching. Maybe it will help lift the spirits of someone out there who's recently (or not so recently) lost a dog. It will make you smile.

I went out for a walk

It was so lovely in the sun.

Chasing the leaves, I was having so much fun.

Jumping and climbing I could have done it all day.

When I stopped to rest, I realised I had lost my way.

I love and miss you and want you to know , it was nothing you have done.

I just got carried away with playing in the sun.

Please try not to worry too much about me.

I can look after myself, and in a way I am free.

Although I'll never stop looking for a way home, we will never be apart.

I will always feel your love for me, deep within my heart.

It may be all we have for now, but it's enough for me.

Cause you'll never know when I'll walk through your door

and expect you to have my tea.

You will be required to write your own poem.
Now, if you'd done that, I would have been happy to help you with improving it. But I won't, & I doubt others will, write the whole thing for you.

I had a dog named _______,
It died, it died.
Mom said it was sleeping,
She lied, lied.

I stole this poem from the Simpson's,
That's true, that's true,
If you can think of better,
Then do, do.
