Well, there are many things I imagine you can do to familiarize yourself with the world of animals in a way that will prepare you for that career. I live down the shore area and there is an aquarium there ("Jenkinsen's Aquarium" in Point Pleasant) that has a volunteer program for kids your age where you can help in feeding and taking care of the fish and animals... So I imagine if there are any aquariums or zoos near you, they may have similar programs... So you can investigate that. Also, the world of dog and cat shows is very big, maybe you can become involved on a volunteer basis working at a local dog show... I know that doesn't seem directly related to practicing medicine on animals, but I bet you will 1) learn alot and 2) meet many people who can give you more ideas and point you in the right direction! Use your imagination.... Maybe there is a local veterinary practice that will let you volunteer for a couple hours of week working on filing paper work or something like that, which will expose you to the business end of it.... The possibilities are endless if you use your imagination and are willing to work for free in exchange for experience and knowledge! Hope this helps...

Since being a vet takes a lot of education, you may not be able to really "start" right now. What you can do is to start spending as much time with animals as you can. Check with your local shelters to see if you can volunteer to help take care of some of the animals. Talk to vets in your area and see if they can use any help.
Best of luck!

it all depends on which kind of animals you want to work with small or large when you make up your mind on what you want to work with you can go to your local vet and ask them if you can help around and go around with them and just help it is a lot of fun then you should get animals of your own and take care of them if you don't already have some then go from then and think about college at a young age like 14 or 15 so you are determinded to pass all your grades to get into the college you want to get in

im a 12 year old. when i was little i wanted to be a vet too. but i recommend that you should look into more things other than a vet. every day you will see sick little dogs having seizures, being bloody, and dieing or even: dead. i wasnt ready for those kinds of things. so i looked up more animal careers. a zoologist wuold be great. i recommend you look into zoology. when i grow up, i want to be an entomoligist. (the study of animal behavior)

You should contact a local veteranarian to see if he needs volunteer help, maybe to jst sit with an injured animal at first. Also you can contact any local wildlife rescues and ask how you can help. Some of them might be willing to train you.

You can volunteer at the animal shelter in the summers if your parents will let you. My neice did that and worked on a farm some too when she got to 14. I hope your parents can let you do this and help your dream come true.

study, study and study some more.
you can start by asking dog owners in your neighborhood if you can walk their dog/s. start small but see about pet sitting
see if you can do volunteer work at a near by farm.
mostly, study everything you can about animals (all kinds) and study animal anatomy. being a vet is not just about dogs and cats
