Believing in god is a personal choice and has nothing to do with what other people do or how they behave.

Just because your father doesn't obey many of the commandments shouldn't affect your belief in G-d. I love the Abrahamic Faiths (Jew, Christian, Islam) and read the scriptures because they do speak of G-d and His love.

G-d can be manifested in many ways in your life. Don't let your faith in G-d be influenced by your dad's behaviour.

G-d is an essential part of our lives and our very being. He/She (depending on perspective-some Christians think G-d could be both).

However your faith in G-d is individual to you and should not be influenced by anybody else. Each one of us comes to G-d in our own way.

I always believed in G-d and Christ, but it was through my own trials and tribulations that I came to know them. I wasn't influenced by any secular religion, although I am of Judeau-Christian lineage.

A good example is Paul in Corinthians.. He was persecuting the Christians and G-d came to him unawares. He was ignorant of G-d and persecuted those who believed. Then one day, he was blinded by the light and he found his faith.

Find G-d in your own way; He is real and his works can be seen all around us. Seek Him out and you will find him.

Most important of all; just because your dad is a vicar doesn't mean that he can't break the commandments. He is human, too and capable of error. No doubt, he is wracked with guilt over some of what he has done. To me, it sounds like he may have lost his way and he sees being a vicar as just a job. His faith is in need of testing. Which only G-d can do, and he will find his way back to G-d, just like you will.

Our faith needs testing now and again to draw us closer to Him in our lives. Also, by going to your dad with this question, it may help him find his faith. Something has happened to cause him to lose his way.

In His Light

God is not the reason why certain individuals within the church choose to abuse theri so called beleif. God is not the Church God is God and so you can have your own relationship with Hm. The people in the church whichever it may be are often hypocritical I have found. I like you have had a knock in this area and still the man in question claims to have integrity and be a worthy member of the Church.

Many people think that they can be saved by doing what other people do, but to be saved you have to believe on your own. When the Holy Spirit calls you to repentance it's your sin that you need to repent of, no matter what it is or who you are related to. Believing in God is a very personal thing, meaning that you have to see what you read in the bible within your own spirit once you are born again. It is revealed truth and no one can give you the knowledge you need if you aren't born again.

John 13:34
"A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another;
as I have loved you, that ye also love one another."

This is the ONLY commandment Jesus gives. It supersedes all the commandments of the Old Testament. Has your father broken this one?

Belief is personal and what YOU choose to believe is between you and God and no body else. Your father's choices and beliefs are his own. Believe what you feel is right and let that be your choice.

Your father is a man and we are all human and therefore fallible. We are all on a personal journey, and his journey is not your journey. I know it would be nice for daddy to provide a shining example, and presumably, preach what he teaches. I am sure he struggles with his (presumed) hypocrisy daily. Try and be above all this and love him and pray for him.

When you get the chance, maybe you are still too young(?) look up "a course in miracles"

God is Love..not Love and Hate, and to be near Him/Her we need to reject all things that do not spring from love.

Your Father is human and makes mistakes, perhaps he no longer believes? and is unable to leave the job because of age etc. He is only trying to put bread on the table. Perhaps in some strange way it is a test of your faith?

Your father is human. Humans have a well-deserved reputation for making a huge mess of things. Don’t build your understanding of God on the actions of any human.

What your father does is irrelevant to whether you choose to believe in God or not. He is just a man, a human being and therefore fallable.

I can find better arguments than your father being a fallible human being. It's not like vicars are saints.

Please read my words carefully:
If you see footmark in the sand, you'll say that someone passed from here...
If you see a piece of dog sh*t on the ground, you'll say that a dog passed from here...
So what about the enormous universe, the sky, stars, planets, earth and all the beauty in it, doesn't it lead to that someone made it?!!!

Some people say that everything is created by itself after the big-bang... I won't ask you about what caused the big-bang, but I'll ask you a simple question:
If you take all the letters of the alphabet, multiples of them, and you threw them randomly on the floor. Do you expect (by a chance of one in infinity) to get a poem like shakespear's??!!

Can't you see how organized our universe is, the planets, the eco-system on earth, look even in your own body... Can you control your heart-beat? Can you control your breath while you're sleeping? Who stopped your eye-lashes from growing after reaching a certain length? Who told the baby turtles to move towards the sea and not to the earth after they come out of their eggs? Who taught the bird how to make nests?

My friend, think with your heart and brain. If you're still lost, think about the following:

Do you know how to play safe?
Non-believer's case:
If there's no God and you do all what you want in life, then nothing will happen to you after life. But if there was God and you were mistaken, then you'll blame yourself FOREVER...

Believer's case:
If there's God and I followed His commands in life, then I'll be in Heaven after life FOREVER. But if there was no God and we're mistaken, then nothing bad will happen to us after life...

Now you know how to play-safe, in case you're not convinced?
