Im 15, and the audition is in May. I can sing alto, or soprano, but I belt better with mid-alto, or really high- soprano... I need help finding an audition song... I'm not really out for a specific part, but any suggestions are helpful! Thank You!

Well, all four of the main women from Little Shop of Horrors (Audrey, Crystal, Ronette, and Chiffon) are pretty sexual women, so I'd say something sort of sensual:
Bring on the Men from Jekyll and Hyde would work good.
When You've Got It, Flaunt It from the Producers would be great!
Roxie from Chicago, Special from Avenue Q, or Mein Herr from Cabaret would work as well.
If you want to show off your higher notes, On My Own from Les Miserables would work great, as would Once Upon a Dream from Jekyll and Hyde, and On the Steps of the Palace from Into the Woods.
But in my opinion, if you wanted the part of Audrey, the best song for you to use would be There's a Fine, Fine Line from Avenue Q, since the parts of Audrey and Kate are both usually nasally and high.

It's hard to say without hearing you. Truthfully, ask yourself what you like to sing and what you feel comfortable singing. Pick a song in the heart of your range -- not something at either end. I auditioned a while back and sang "Proud of Your Boy" -- the song Clay Aiken sang in the update for "Aladdin." It hit enough notes near the top end without making me sound shrill. And I got the part.

Don't make American Idol-ish mistakes of 1) Singing something you like but that isn't what anyone else wants to hear; 2) Singing something you can't handle; 3) Singing something that is so basic that it doesn't show you off.

Personally, I'd pick a song from a Broadway show like Grease, Hairspray or Cats -- something a bit different, but still familiar. And finally, make sure you're not just singing words, but that you're actually connecting to the meaning of what you're singing. It's music, but it's also drama, and they'll definitely be judging you on your dramatic performance of the song.

Are there any other shows you really like? I suggest picking a song from one of them, perhaps something you are really familiar with. That way you will be more likely not to draw a blank when you are nervous and in front of everyone.

What I DON'T recommend is choosing a song from the show you are auditioning for. There are exceptions, to be sure, but generally speaking it is a faux pas to do that. Whatever song you choose, it is presumed you are trying to get THAT part, and THAT part only. Some directors (and fellow cast) might be put off by that, though sometimes they are not! I knew someone who sang the main song from Jekyll and Hyde while auditioning for that part, and he got it. He was very exceptional, though.

So I recommend simply picking a song from something else, but something that you are really familiar with, to cut down on mistakes. Only you will know what that song is!

Regardless of what you choose, break a leg!!!

Musical: Little Shop of Horrors
Song: Suddenly, Seymour

Lift up your head
Wash off your mascara
Here, take my Kleenex
Wipe that lipstick away
Show me your face
Clean as the morning
I know things were bad
But now they're okay

Suddenly Seymour
Is standing beside you
You don't need no makeup
Don't have to pretend
Suddenly Seymour
Is here to provide you
Sweet understanding
Seymour's your friend

[AUDREY]
Nobody ever
Treated me kindly
Daddy left early
Mama was poor
I'd meet a man and
I'd follow him blindly
He'd snap his fingers
Me, I'd say "sure"

Suddenly Seymour
Is standin' beside me
He don't give me orders
He don't condescend
Suddenly Seymour
Is here to provide me
Sweet understanding
Seymour's my friend

[SEYMOUR]
Tell me this feeling lasts till forever
Tell me the bad times are clean washed away

[AUDREY]
Please understand that it's still
Strange and frightnin'
For losers like I've been
It's so hard to say

Suddenly Seymour

[SEYMOUR]
Suddenly Seymour
He purified me
He purified you
[AUDREY]
Suddenly Seymour showed me I can
[SEYMOUR]
Suddenly Seymour showed you you can

[BOTH]
Learn how to be more
The girl that's inside me (you)
With sweet understanding

Musical: Little Shop of Horrors
Song: Somewhere That's Green

I know Seymour's the greatest
But I'm dating a semi-sadist
So I've got a black eye
And my arm's in a cast.
Still, that Seymour's a cutie
Well, if not, he's got inner beauty
And I dream of a place
Where we could be together at last

A matchbox of our own
A fence of real chain link,
A grill out on the patio
Disposal in the sink
A washer and a dryer and an ironing machine
In a tract house that we share
Somewhere that's green.

He rakes and trims the grass
He loves to mow and weed
I cook like Betty Crocker
And I look like Donna Reed
There's plastic on the furniture
To keep it neat and clean
In the Pine-Sol scented air
Somewhere that's green

Between our frozen dinner
And our bedtime, nine-fifteen
We snuggle watchin' Lucy
On our big, enormous twelve-inch screen

I'm his December Bride
He's Father, he Knows Best
Our kids watch Howdy Doody
As the sun sets in the west
A picture out of Better Homes and Gardens magazine

Far from Skid Row
I dream we'll go
somewhere that's green.

The show is a send up of sixties movies, music and ideals. Sing something catchy from that era. There are plenty of great female songs and it would show your knowledge of the material.
No director wants to hear every single girl sing "I Dreamed a Dream", so be fun and creative and stand out.
Be aware that your vocal limitations my hinder you from the role of Audrey, but the Urchins are great fun with great songs!
Good Luck!
