he didnt stop working but stopped creating
20 Has Jehovah stopped exercising his creative power? Well, the Bible does say that when Jehovah finished his creative work on the sixth creative day, “he proceeded to rest on the seventh day from all his work that he had made.” (Genesis 2:2) The apostle Paul indicated that this seventh “day” is thousands of years long, for it was still ongoing in his day. (Hebrews 4:3-6) But does “rest” mean that Jehovah has stopped working altogether? No, Jehovah never stops working. (Psalm 92:4; John 5:17) His rest, then, must simply refer to the cessation of his work of physical creation respecting the earth. His work of bringing his purposes to fulfillment, however, has continued uninterrupted. Such work has included the inspiration of the Holy Scriptures. His work has even involved the bringing forth of “a new creation,” .—2Â Corinthians 5:17.

1) Been wondering the same thing myself. Relax and enjoy all the cool stuff he had made? I mean, that would keep a human busy for quite awhile... The Nature Channel... Watching Adam and Eve check out the toys...
2) Jesus said, "The Sabbath was made for man..." Mark2, I believe. (planning ahead)
3) Oooo I wouldn't say that, since I wasn't there!
4) Apparently there had been a war in heaven in which Satan and his angels were thrown out. Luke 10:18 Genesis 1:28

how do you know He did nothing before in the pre-existent Eternity? He could have made whole civilizations and worlds and universes galore before the reality that we know and understand. What did God do on His day of rest? ---- Enjoyed Fellowship with Adam (that is why He created Adam to start with).

The meaning of the words "sabbath" and "rest." The Hebrew word for "sabbath" means "to stop, to cease from work"; and the Hebrew word for "rest" conveys, not the thought of idleness, but rather, peacefulness, and the joy and satisfaction that comes from completing a work. On the seventh day God stopped his creative work. He rested because his work was complete.
Later in Exodus we read that the Lord himself told Israel that the sabbath was a day when he rested and was refreshed. It was also a day in which his people and their animals were to be refreshed when they rested. In Hebrew, the word for "refresh" means to "take a breath." The word is used in 2 Samuel 16 of David, who "refreshed" himself at the end of his weary travels. The picture conveyed is of finding a place to rest at the top of the mountain and reveling in the joy and satisfaction of completing an arduous climb, reflecting on the beautiful scenery, and taking an exhilarating breath of fresh air.The purpose of God's rest is that it was a day of blessing. The word "blessing" is used in Genesis 2 in reference to humans and animals, "to confer abundant and effective life." So the sabbath was to be a day of blessing, a day intended to help man live an abundant and effective life.

No human can possibly adequately answer this question with anything remotely close to the truth because we just don't know. God didn't see fit to tell us. If you're still curious when you meet Him, ask Him then -- that is, if you still want to once you've seen Him as He truly is in all His splendor and glory and majesty.

The only thing dumber than the question is the answers. He set the day ("saturday") apart for rest and worship. If you worship Him, you follow Him in respecting His day. If you worship the pope, then you honor His day("Sunday"). What is tricky about that?
