Buddhanet.net is a great launching point for learning real Buddhism or if you want books, while it sounds funny the "Complete Idiot's Guide" is a great overview.

2 online Buddhist Bookstores are also an AWESOME launching point. SnowLionpub.com and wisdompubs.org are delightful spots to buy books from. Also many books can also be found, physically, in any local larger bookstore like Borders or Barnes and Noble. Snow Lion has many resources there to learn about malas, and other topics of interest as well as the books and Dharma items they have. I've had nothing but good experiences with Snow Lion.

Hope this is of some benefit.

Good ambition.Buddhism is the only Religion which "preaches" and "Practises" TRUE Non-Violence,unlike some predominant European religions which preach "Though shall not kill" ,but practised killing 65 million people of their own Religion in 2 world wars and 6million innocent Jews(including women and children)--I am not a Buddhist
