One of my cameras, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ2 has 5MP and 6x optical zoom. Quality is great for a compact digital camera, and it's still working great after owning it for nearly two years. It's a great deal for it's low price now.
The 6MP DMC-LZ5 and 5MP DMC-LZ3 are the successors with larger LCD screens.
Canon SD600 (very popular) or A540 are good too.

I HIGHLY recommend Canon Digital Cameras! They use SD Flash Memory, and AA batteries! Also, their reputation is excellent!

I have a Canon S2 IS and it is awesome. I would recommend a Canon S3 IS.
