Got a wedding & Holiday in Africa, want to know whether 1GB or even 2GB will be sufficient.

Also, any tips for good photography, and minimizing the size

1GB=1400
2GB=2800

I say this because my 512MB is about 700 shots. Depends what camera you have, as well.

Go with the 2gb card. You won't regret it. I have a 6mp camera, and in the high setting I can get over a thousand pictures. If you go with lower resolutions, then you can get more pictures, of course, but I don't recommend that. Use all 6 megapixels! You paid extra for the quality, so use it. You will probably want to print some pictures. Oh, and sometimes you can find a 2gb card on sale for cheaper than a 1gb card.

This is the definitive answer for the Nikon Coolpix S6, since all of this information came from the owner's manual for your camera. The numbers must still be taken as estimates, because actual file sizes may vary slightly from the average, but these numbers are from Nikon and not "one size fits all."

In the 6 MP High Quality Mode (2816x2112; high quality), a 1 GB card will hold approximately 340 images.

In the 6 MP Normal Quality Mode (2816x2112; normal quality), a 1 GB card will hold approximately 660 images. You can use this setting to get more pictures on your card and they will still be quite acceptable for printing up to 8x10 without cropping.

In the 3 MP Normal Quality Mode (2048x1536), a 1 GB card will hold approximately 1,220 images. You can use this setting to get even more pictures on your card and they will still be quite acceptable for printing up to 5x7 without cropping.

In the PC Screen Mode (1024x768), a 1 GB card will hold approximately 4,180 images, but you would not be happy with prints from that mode any larger than 3x5.

Be aware that your Nikon does not approve cards larger than 1 GB for the Coolpix S6. If you buy a 2 GB card, you might find that your camera can only address 1 GB of that card. (See page 90 of your owner's manual.)

After reading all the answers given earlier, I come to the conclusion that it would be better if you were to take with you three or two 1GB/2GB as the case maybe, just to be on the safe side.
Enjoy!

It depends. You can usually change the quality of prints on your camera.

We used a 1G for our honeymoon, took 500 pictures, and we're still using the memory card.
