It's hard to find a job that pays well. Check out the jobs before you move here. Lower cost of living than LA. A lot of cheap houses on the market right now because there were so many speculators and now they and the builders are unloading them very cheaply. You can probably rent a condo cheaply on www.tampa.craigslist.org if you don't want to buy right away. Weather is warm, people are friendly. Not as sophisticated as LA or the northeast. Schools all over Florida are poor. Traffic jams are not as bad as Orlando or the east coast of Florida. Ybor City is the club scene for the entire west coast of Florida. You don't have to live on the beach-it's easy just to drive there on weekends. Besides, in case of a hurricane those on the beach have to evacuate. Live in Tampa, not Pinellas County, as the jobs are in Tampa. Good shopping and discount stores. Two large colleges there with their activities. Major sports teams-the Bucs and the Lightning and the Devil Rays. Busch Gardens, Lowry Park Zoo, The Museum of Science and Industry, the Florida Aquarium all offer things to do,.

I do not live there myself, but I am a frequent visitor. (I live 4 hours north and used to work there a lot). I know a little, but I'm not an expert on the area. Here is what I know:

The advantages:

Lots to do. Easy to get around... for a big city. Great climate. Close to Disneyworld. Close to some wonderful beaches. Has some decent neighborhoods to raise a family in.

The disadvantages:

Kind of pricey, though not as bad as the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. Very touristy, which I guess can be good OR bad. And it is right in hurricane alley, which makes home owners' insurance outrageously expensive.

That is all I know, personally. Good luck!

ADVANTAGES: sunny weather, warm, ocean views, beaches
no state taxes, no city tax.
DISADANTAGES: lots of old people from Oct to May, lower wages for most jobs, high cost of housing, high electric bills.
