50 yards is pretty far for 12 gauge with what sounds like 00 buckshot,I personally wouldn't try a shot over 40. with a good gun and a slug barrel, you can shoot 80+ yds with todays ammo

Well I am from the show me state 50 yards sounds like a long ways to me 150 feet to be exact, move it in about 20 yrds and it will be more affective. If a shot gun is fired the shot is leaving the
barrel and creating a cone shaped pattern pattern this , think about it. I think at 50 yards it is about to run out of gas.

Are you asking for ethical hunting knockdown power or are you asking for safety? For actual hunting, going beyond 50 yards can lead to excessive tracking, lost game, and above all, suffering of the animal.
Now for safety, #2 shot, which does not travel as far as buckshot, will go about 1200 feet (400 yards). The heavier shot like you are talking about maintains more velocity than birdshot. That is why buckshot is not shot into the air. It is potentially deadly at all points in it's trajectory.

High brass 2 3/4 inch mag. when you say 12 pellets that's probably no. 4's, out to at least 80 yds.
