Wow! I know your pain! I am 11 and I had one last year, it sucked! It hurt me so bad they had to take it out and we switched orthodontists. But I know some tips to make it stop hurting!

1. DONT THINK ABOUT IT! I know that sounds really really cheesy but it helps a lot!

2. DONT touch it with your tounge! That makes you think about it which makes it hurt!

3. Even thought the orthodontist says dont eat jolly ranchers and stuff, eat them occasionally! They soothe the mouth and make you forget about your pal sep.

4. Only use the christmas tree thingys when you really really need them! They make you feel like your gonna gag and i think it is REALLY gross.

5. Practice your talking! They day after I got mine, I had to sing at church, and I sounded horrible! Luckily, I wasnt at the microphone that day, I was just in the choir lol.

6. Dont turn the key on your own! It hurts by yourself, Have your mom or dad do it!

7. Eat liquidy food, like applesauce and yogurt. They are yummy and they are pain- free!

8. Enjoy your pal sep......that sounded even cheesier that the first one, but if you cry with it in, Your mouth droops down and it gets numb and very soar!

9. Dont eat popcorn, only on special occasions! The kernels get stuck and they hurt!

10. Dont eat ice cream that much......it makes the pal sep cold and soar and well, trust me just dont do it! :)

ENJOY YOUR TIPS AND GOOD LUCK!

I had one for a year.
Be sure and get one of those teeny bottle brush looking things called a "proxy brush" (you can get them at the drug store) It will be the best thing for cleaning the very small space above the place where you crank the little screw.

I had the worst trouble with lettuce.
Things that were soft (yogurt, soup broth, ice cream, mashed potatoes, ...) were the easiest to deal with.

It's gross, but you learn to sort of clean it while you eat, with your tongue.

Then you can go to the bathroom and use the proxy brush -- they even have the travel ones that you can carry in your pocket - it has a protector cap to keep it clean.

Avoid anything hard crunchy - I cut myself more than once trying to eat corn chips.

Be sure and drink frequently while you eat - it will help keep food from building up.

It is also good to swish and spit with a mouth wash made to loosen plaque before you brush.

Hang in there -- it's really worth it.

It was rough for the year I had it but I have really done better ever since (I have TMJ) no more jaw locking up! I also have less trouble with stuffy noses -- The doc said I would, but I didn't believe him until it really happened.

Most people I know who have had them only wear them for 6 months (I had to go longer to also correct some previous ortho that had not been done right.)

no. your overbite will never be fastened. expanders widen your jaw and thats no longer the concern with an overbite, you will possibly be able to desire to drag it forward, no longer widen it. in case you flow to an orthodontist they provides you with braces and rubberbands which will do the trick. despite the fact that, in the journey that your overbite is quite intense, surgical treatment could be an determination. surgical treatment works through fact they ruin the jaw and pull it forward to the place you no longer have an overbite. than they reset it and bone ultimately fills in lower back. yet another determination for some human beings is to drag some pernament tooth. despite the fact that, incredibly of pulling the decrease jaw forward, it pushes your top jaw lower back. i've got had all 3 performed to me. my surgical treatment replaced into in simple terms 3 weeks in the past. i did a lot of examine in this previously making the alternative.

I had one of those For two years. You have to turn the screw? I found it difficult to eat and wouldn't actually eat for three days. Was starving! ( Exaggeration on my behalf.lol) N e way, I found it hard to eat nearly all foods.

The best thing to eat was runny soup. Cos yogurt is yukky in your plate. N you need REAL food. Puree Fruit is also really nice and really filling, I would really recommend this one. I know it hurts a lot but it will SO be worth it in the end

A good idea is to get one of those brush things that u can get to clean under the plate, but i spose u already have one of those.

Best of luk.

you can eat anything. but at the beginning it may be hard to speak and swallow. i had a fit at the beginning because i couldnt figure out how to eat or swallow. but within a couple days you get used to it. the food does get stuck everywhere but the best thing you can do is swish you drink around in your mouth every so often. usually they are kept for 6 mo. and when they take it off you get that weird feeling all over again!! have fun..jk
