where are the best begginer to intermediate surf waves in december?

mainly around central america but if its somewhere else I dont mind the comment but remeber beg-int and in winter (december) please tell me ive been looking on the int. for a while but I can't find any place thats good...

The south shore doesn't brack during the winter- so you'll be a little dissapointed if you go to Hawaii. Centeral America has great surf (and warm!) in Dec. However I'd recommend Cabo. There are always waves- If it's too big on the Pacific side you can surf the tip (and vice versa). There's a variety of breaks from mellow reefs (allong the corridor) to some heavier points that get more swell on the Pacific. There's a surf culture there so you won't be trying to surf and wrestle with foriegn equipment in an area not familiar with it.

southern california is pretty consistant for beginners, because it gets the (pretty relentless) northwest swell that all of california gets, but its farther south and doesn't face the swell so directly. I bet you could score good waist-head high waves somewhere in the greater los angeles area atleast half of the days in the winter. central am. tends to be better in the summer, but it would seem that costa rica, nicaragua, and the northwestern parts of panama (santa catalina, punta barica playa guanico) would probably have pretty conistant similar size as well. i am impressed if you can justify a trip to central america with the intention of scoring shoulder-high...

in my book that's called getting skunked, but if that's the wave you want, jump on it. probably no crowd!

You can hire a surf guide in Canoa, Ecuador who will take you to a break suitable for your skill level and give you some feedback on your surfing. If you stay in Canoa, you can easily take day trips north or south to other breaks. Canoa has many beach breaks and a river mouth break which range from slow and mushy to fast and barreling. Ecuador is cheaper and less crowded than Costa Rica.

GO TO WAIKKII IN HAWAII IT IS THE BEST BEGINNER BREAK IN THE WORLD. THEN FOR FUN YOU CAN TAKE THE BUS TO THE NORTH SHORE AND WATCH THE REAL ACTION AT THE PIPELINE.
