Also what do I need to bring to get it. I read my birth certificate is needed but what about my soc. card. I am an American Citizen, and I want to be able to cross the Canadian border a little faster. Will having a passport help. I would be driving or walking across to visit a friend. And would I say I am visiting friends when I cross?

You need form DS-11, which you can download from travel.state.go, your orfficial birth certificate (with raised seal) or naturalization papers if you're a naturalized citizen, proof of identity (usually a driver's license or other government issued photo ID) and two passport photos.

It takes about six weeks to get a passport by mail, and the fee is $97. You can find out where to apply for one near you by visiting travel.state.gov

If you're travelling to Canada by air, you must have a passport. If you're driving or walking across the border, you have until January 2008 to get a passport which you'll need to cross the border.

My husband is Canadian, we cross the border regularly. Having a passport does simplify things, but sometimes how quickly we get through depends on the mood of the immigration official (we get grumpy officials more often when returning to the US, not entering Canada.)

Not a birth certificate but a Certificate of Live Birth, two passport photos, photo IDs 2 or 3 I think and paper work for the passport and payment for passport. The cost depends on the age of the person the passport is for. I heard for children they wouldn't need those but you would have to look into it. I am not sure how long it takes to get a passport now because when I got mine it only took 15 days. I am almost positive it is a longer wait now. I hope I didn't forget anything else for a passport.

Yes you need a birth certificate and as of January 1st you HAVE To have a passport to get into another country even by foot, which I doubt that you will be walking across but still you have to have one, for flight, car, foot, or ferry, the only time you don't right now is on a cruise ship but that will soon be different,

You can go to your Post Office or you Courthouse and then will have you fill out forms, make you you have at least 2 pictures taken by a licensed passport picture place. They have to be a certain size and all. Then you go in and you fill out the forms, pay the money, and BAM in 6-8 weeks you have your passport. Mine took 4 weeks, and i got mine about 3 years ago, they are good for ten years if you are over the age of 16 I think and if you are younger then that I think it is 4 or 6 years. Good Luck and have fun.

I just renewed my passport yesterday. It is really easy to get one. When you go to your appointment to submit the paperwork you need to have completed the form except for the section you have to fill out in front of them. Also, take 2 passport photos that are color and 2X2. (All the photo specs are on the form.) Also you need to take your original birth certificate, social security card, your drivers license, and two checks one for $67 and the other for $30. A passport is needed the new law is in act now. Yes you would say that you are visiting a friend. I am on the Mexico - USA boarder and that is what I do when I visit friends, or if I go grocery shopping you just tell them that if they ask. I hope that this helps.

Yes, you need your birth certificate. Check with your local passport application office before going in. It was taking six weeks the last time I checked. You may need one even for Canada. Just get a passport and tell the truth when you cross the border.

go to the post office - with your birth certificate. It's easy and costs way too much. SS card isn't needed

New laws say you need one. When you cross, they ask you what the purpose of the trip is. Visiting friends sound good. NEVER LIE!

It's easy. You just get the photos taken. and bring them into the post office along with the required papers (ss card, birth certificate, etc). It costs about $60, and you should plan ahead because it can take weeks to get to you. However, I think you can pay a little more and get it sooner.

I know you can go to the post office and also to walgreens to get your passport. I think you need a picture id and your social security card. I never had a passport before, but I overheard my co workers talking about it about a month ago. I hope this helps.
