My cat's eyes have been interesting lately. She's 3 years old. Sometimes the black dots inside her eyes (pupils) are small and sometimes they are very large. What is the reason for this? Does it have to with light or what?

same way ours change. Yes, has to do with light. When your in the dark, your pupils get larger to absorb as much light as it can get, and when your in the light, they get smaller so not to take in to much light and damage them. This is an involuntary act, which means you don't have to do anything. Your body does it by itself. Hope I could help!

When the black part of her eyes is small she is or has been in very bright light. When the black part of her eyes is large she has been in a dark place. The black part of a cats eyes can get very large which makes cats able to see in the dark easier then most any other animal.

Cats eyes are just like ours and many other animals as well. Pupils that go big to small or small to big is because of the light, whether it be dark or bright. If this is a concern for you and you are not sure contact your veterinarian for further advice.

Yes, it has to do with how much light her eyes are taking in. When the light is 'low' the pupils 'dialate' (grow larger, get blacker) and when the light is 'high' or bright, they get very 'small' ... just like a person's do, or any other 'eye' in a mammal on this planet.

Yes you are very right. to make a long story short the pupils get larger in dimmer light so they can absorb/use up as much light as possible. In the daytime, they don't need all that extra light so their pupils get smaller for less light intake.

Eye pupils expand and contract according to light intensity. This allows for proper focusing during varied light conditions.

Both. Light is the main reason the pupils change size, but when a cat is hunting or when they are afraid, their pupils get bigger.
