I'm not a doctor and I'm not even studying to be one, but I was just wondering if emergency medicine is harder than the other three branches?
It just seems like harder than all of the other three fields in TV serieses, so I was wondering if it really is harder in "real" life.

Thanks in advance!

Emergency medicine is not necessarily harder...it does require you to know about all areas of study though...you have to know about everything because you will see everything and have to figure out what is wrong with a person who comes into your ER...you probably do not know every aspect of other areas but you are required to be familiar with all areas well enough to diagnose your patient.

Internal Medicine Vs Emergency Medicine

i'm a surgical intern.. i have to admit i thought about this a lot before getting into medicine.
but actually emergency medicine and general surgery is the same.. if you're talking about surgery that is. the general surgeons i work for rotate in the ER every other week and so there is always a general surgeon in the ER.. they take care of most of the surgical emgerencies. the other doctors on call in the ER have other specialties.
internal medicine on the other hand.. haha. well, a surgeon i was working for when i hadn't decided on surgery as my field said to me, "we're teaching you to be a surgeon, so don't go into that internal medicine ****."
you can take what you want from that. :)

Actually general surgery is the hardest because you have to know what your doing exactly while emergency med your first and main goal is to make the patient stable. There are way to many mistakes you can make in surgery, leave something behind, anything. Emergency however you have to think on your toes and look out side the box. Um mm the tv shows are all far from reality. House, ER, scrubs, all of them.
