Wow The most enjoyable part about this question was reading the answers from all people who thought it was serious.

I'm very late to the party, but I'll answer for anyone else who may wonder about butterflies being a cliche. I think butterflies are pretty due to the potential for variety and intricate design. They can be as delicate or vibrant as you like, and are viewed as socially 'acceptable' for girls. However, I get annoyed sometimes because so many articles about tattoo ideas 'for women' focus on butterflies, fairies, and flowers. They aren't doing women any favors, especially if we don't WANT to be stuck with some stereotypical 'girl' tattoo just because we're afraid that anything else would be judged unfeminine. Maybe some of us aren't into the floral/fantasy/cutesy category. I have four large pieces on my arms, and even people who don't normally like tattoos have said they like mine: my favorite doll, St. Therese, the Brooklyn Bridge, and an image of my 'inner child'. If you love butterflies, then by all means, get one. If you want something feminine, then trust the Internet and books to supply thousands of beautiful images. Just be 100% sure about the one you choose. I've never had one moment's regret about mine.

You really want a tattoo everyone else has?

Okay. My suggestion:

Run for public office repeatedly, gaining higher and higher offices until you are in the highest office in the land. Find a reason to declare martial law. Then enact a law requiring every citizen to get a tattoo -- the same tattoo.(Whichever one you like best.) At this point, you can have yourself tattoed with that particular tattoo and feel comfortable that everyone in your favorite beer joint also has the same one.

You may as well have big dreams, you know?

Well unoriginal is easy, hearts, butterflies, skulls, snakes, the Reaper.....

I have two myself:
On my right arm a full color evil looking jester (not terribly original concept the design is custom drawn.)

On my left arm is a black and white driftwood cross with a captain's wheel and compass and my father's birth and death dates written in like coordinates.

My former brother in law is a tattoo artist so I got mine for free and he drew up custom designs for me. :)

Hey, my friend got a rose tattooed on her butt in 1975. You could copy her, but you probably won't get that same stttrreetttched look for a couple decades.

I don't have a tattoo but every male in my family has a rose on their chest and every female has a rose on their butt. If I were you I'd get a red rose.
