Well where i am at the middle school starts the day an hour later than than the elementary at about 9:00am and ends at 4:00pm.
if they just started an hour earlier there is an extra hour of school without making the school day longer. The high school starts an hour earlier than the elementary school at about 7:10 and ends around 2:20 if they would to lengthen the day by an hour then it seems like no big problem. I go to a catholic school so i dont know exactly how their classes work and how much wasted time there is. There is yet another problem the teachers dont take their jobs as seriously as they should according to my friends. Some such as the algebra teacher doesnt even explain things so the kids are struggling with their work. there needs to be a total reform of public schools without a doubt. Another thing parents dont care if their kids fail in school. Hell i get grounded sometimes for getting a C on a test or quiz. I keep up straight A's in school or just one B+ like on the last report card. Our grading system is harder than the public school near us 93 is an A- i got a B+ (92) in english and i was mad. I also already have a summer and weekend job caddying and im 14 i started when i was 12 had to lie about my age said i was 13. Kids today do not have enough self discipline and the fact their parents dont do a damn thing about it doesnt help.

I don't like the idea of a longer school day. I think children need time to be children. They need time to have fun

I think if parents did their job as parents it wouldn't be necessary. If parents made sure their children did their homework, projects, and reports, then their children would have a much better chance of succeeding. If parents made sure their children were in school, and in school on time, their children would have a better chance of succeeding. Instead most parents would prefer to blame the schools and the teachers when their children aren't doing the best they can.

If children are in school until 5:00, when do they have time to play, have fun, eat dinner, and relax?
