You do not need to sing high to sing. Range will come with time. You have it now, you will just need to work it so that you will feel comfortable with it.
Unfortunatly, without having someone in front of me, it is nearly impossible to help them. Every person does something a little different. Sometimes, it works and its right, others it doesn't, it's wrong and its hurting them.
Start with classical training. You DO need to find a voice coach, but listen to operas and get a feel of what its like. Do not force anything out that doesn't want to. If you start to hurt, STOP. Don't belt without the help of a professional. Support your breathing, open your mouth. Use clear vowels. You can gogle these terms for a further explanation.
As for Mr. Jackson... I don't know, but he is really amazing, isn't he?

you just have to get your voice up as high as you can.
i was in a choir and i was a soprano and i really didnt think i could sing that high. you just have to gradually go up until you get your highest point. it will be in your head voice. you also have a chest voice, lower tones are mostly sung in your chest voice.
