I, too, have a female Toy Fox terrier, & while I don't have a Shepherd, I do have a large female Lab-mix! if you had your TFT before you got the GS & she seems to be "mean" to him in the house, it is simply territorial behavior on her part! She was there first & she is the Alpha female. Whenever your big boy tends to wander into her "territory",wherever that may be( a special corner for her, her crate, her food bowls..?) she will attempt to protect them. Outside is apparently "neutral" territory & they can play together without a problem.First, make sure you identify which areas inside the house your TFT claims as her own; Next, make sure your Shepherd has his own "special' place that he can call his own. Put a toy, bone or blanket down at that spot for him.Don't let the female bother his spot & vice-versa! When they are outside, try to engage both of them together in play or some games that they both take part in together; this will help strengthen the bond between them. When they are in the house, they should always be fed separately, away from each other. You can also engage in some sort of quiet play with them in the house, but on" neutral territory"....family room, porch, kitchen, etc. When it's time for sleep, that's when they should ready to go to their respective territory. Good luck & I hope this helps a bit.

i have 2 German shepherds ans a small Yorkie. my Yorkie sounds just the same as your little terrier. she will put treats near them then when they move she will go for them. i know a lot of small dogs what rule the big dogs. my shepherds wouldn't hurt her. i think they will be fine.your terrier is a female and your male i would say wouldn't hurt her your female will be the boss it was her house first as well.

The female is usually the pack leader, so just reinforce her status as pack leader and things should calm down.
It would help to get your lad neutered. In the meantime when you put their food down feed her first, give her more fuss and attention and fuss her first, when they walk through a door she should go first.
Her bed should be in the core of the territory, his nearer the edge.

Hopefully they should soon settle and get on together, you'll know when things are ok when they play indoors, since this is where she seems to be most uptight.

Your Toy Fox Terrier is being territorial - this strange dog has been brought into her turf and she doesn't like it. Whenever she is mean to your GSD, tell her 'No' in a firm voice, or physically make her stop if need be. She needs to learn that you are allowing this new dog to be in your house, and that the house is yours to control, not yours.

"Toy Fox Terrier" is an actual breed (Toy group). There are also Smooth and Wirehaired Fox Terriers (Terrier group). I would guess that a "miniature" Fox Terrier is either an undersized Fox Terrier, or simply an incorrect name for a Toy Fox Terrier.

Try to seperate them in the house if the small one is going to act that way.You must teach her that that is wrong behavior.Luckily the big dog is being cool about it but one day he might get fed up & do some damage. The little one could get a broken neck easily even if the big dog didnt mean to cause that much harm.Be careful.

She is being territorial as he is a new intruder in her patch.

It will take time.In the meantime if you have to leave them for long lock them in seperate rooms.

He is probably taking it well because it does not bother him, he will let her know when he has had enough without hurting her.
