A much more positive mood. Prepare to not dress in all black, but take your cues from the family once you get there as to how the event will go. Despite the name of the event, if the family is crying, you don't want to crack a joke. More than likely, though, it will be like a party for the deceased and not as somber as a funeral.

I've only been to one. The family of the deceased all wore Tropical Hawaiian shirts with Flower Leis around their necks. There were photos of the deceased from being a baby on up through age 34. Music played was his favorite rock-n-roll and Beach Boys songs and the family and close friends stood up and told silly stories or fond, fun memories of the deceased. This was all inside a church! No traditional funeral songs or service. Afterwards there was a small reception with more of the same upbeat music and there were more pics of the deceased at different ages, bright color balloons and one large photo that had been blown up to about 24" by 36" and it had a wide white border around it. The family had special color pens so that everyone could sign the picture. Then a couple of weeks later, they had it matted and framed. It hangs in their living room.

It's the remembrance of some one that is not with you and telling of happy times and jokes they've played on each other its like a wake the Irish and Welsh have which usually helps the memory with a little of Spirits, it's just to celebrate your brother or sister that is no longer with ya
