but tell him that u just want to try it but u dont want it to ruin your friendship if it doesnt work out

the ony way to deal with a rumour is to dispell or confirm it. It sounds like the rumour is true, so why don't you stop torturing the poor guy and go talk to him. Actually the best antidote for rumours is to just ignor them and go about your business
