You can do it. You just have to be very persisent. They will want to bond with one another. I would train them as you would just having one. This is how I learned:

Before a parakeet will step up he needs to have your trust. You need to talk to your bird with your hands behind your back. Showing your hands at first can make your bird nervous. Next try sticking your hand in his cage for a while with a finger stuck out. Do not try to touch the bird. Try this for a few days. If your bird is interested he may get on your finger. Just let him sit there then.

I heard that way many times with my bird. That really did not completely work for me. I also have heard that holding your bird close to your heart and talking to it in a soothing voice will work.

What I did with my parakeet ( my first bird ) was sit my hand in the cage for a few days to prove to him that I would not hurt him. Next, I grabbed him and let him move through my hands close to my body. He did scream, but after doing this a couple of times he calmed down. Then, I was able to reach in the cage and place my finger slighltly above his feet against his belly. I would but a little pressure against his belly and say step up and he would. Once they learn that step up means get on your finger you will not have to apply the pressure.

My bird now comes out of his cage all the time. He sits on my shoulder and goes everywhere in the house with me. He gets on just about everyone's finger. He has even learned how to make kiss sounds back to me when I make them to him.

It takes a lot of work. LIke someone else mentioned having two birds together could affect your training. I would still work with the other one to see if you could train it too.

A great book to read about training and caring for your bird is:

Parakeet: Your Happy Healthy Pet by Julie Rach Mancini

You can get it at Borders for $12.99 or at amazon.com cheaper.

I have used this book in training my bird.

When I got my lovebird I was told to put it in the bathtub with its wings clipped. This way the only way it could get out is by me. I ended up sitting in the tub with my bird and he started walking on me. I found this method to be easier than when I trained my parakeet.

of corse they will learn to love you this may be a bit long but it works

first getting two birds at the same time was not a good what you should've done (for further refrance) is got one bonded with is and get another one about 2 months later birds seem to bond less with you when there is another bird around.

Next cage proof your toys make sure there are no mirrors and if you don't want to start breeding take out all things that could be mistaken for a nest they will also get very aggressive when trying to nest

start to take your birds out but only one at a time set a certain time each day for each bird like take 1 out in the morning 1 in the afternoon if your birds bite hard use a towl or glove until they get to know you and will not bite when a bird bites hard i do two things either hit the bird lightly on the head or hold the bird for a desired time the top two most important things for bitting is 1. do not show fear 2. do not give in(like putting a bird back in the cage when it bites) show them that your are their flock leader

lastly i like to bathe my birds in the sink they love the lucwarm water it is better then just spraying them with a spray bottle

-hope this helps

YOU CAN TEACH TWO BIRD AT THE SAME TIME TO TALK WHEN ONE LEARNS HOW TO TALK THE OTHER WILL WANT TO SOME PEOPLE SAY YOU CAN'T BUT YOU CAN IT'S JUST A LITTLE HARDER SO THERE IS MORE WORK. Birds learn best in the morning, when their mind is fresh and ready for new information. If you use a towel or cover over your bird's cage, talk to them for 1/2 hr before you remove it each morning. Repeat the same phrases loudly, slowly and clearly. Parakeets do best with hard letters like K and T, so the traditional "hello" is actually sort of hard for a Parakeet. "Cutie" would be much better! Parakeets tend to mumble and to talk quickly, so the more slowly you talk, the more normal it will sound when the bird starts to repeat it. The younger the better, as in all things that involve learning. Get a hand fed parakeets if you can, at a very young age. That is when it's still learning how to communicate, and talking "human" will be a valid option for it.Have patience, and eventually your parakeets will start to answer back to you! Once they get the hang of it, they'll learn more and more quickly as you go. While you can try taping yourself and playing the tape, the parakeet really needs to learn that this is a way for you and it to talk to each other. So it works best if you physically talk to your parakeet, and that you do it often. You would have to say the same phrase or word over and over. There are also tapes and CDs available on the market that have repetitive words and phrases recorded on them. You play the tape for your bird when you leave the house, and hopefully, after a short time, your bird will learn what's on the tape. Be careful, however, of what your bird learns. I played a tape like this for a week and spent the next few years with at least ten birds that said "hey, baby" and whistled "charge!" all day long! You can make a tape of your own if you have a couple of hours to spare - that way you will teach your bird what you want him to learn. Beware of teaching profanity, however; your bird may have to be rehomed one day, and he might not be welcome if he has a foul mouth! The easiest first words for a bird to learn are one or two syllables long with a strong sound, like "cracker" or "pretty bird". If you teach your bird to whistle before he learns to talk, he is less likely to talk at all - this might be because whistling is easier than talking. Be realistic about what your bird can learn - do some research on your species and talk to other people that have a similar bird that talks and ask them their method of teaching. To teach parakeets to talk it is easier if they have all these things below: The pet bird must be perfectly healthy and happy The pet bird must be intelligent The pet bird must love and trust the owner and completely, and vice versa The owner must be caring, patient and have time to spend with the bird The pet bird must have a regular daily routine Young birds soon after weaning learn to talk more quickly than older birds. P.S. GOOD LUCK!

My friend has two budgies, and both of then can be taken out of the cage for play time.

It is true that two keets will interact with each other, and have less interest in interacting with you; but it is not that bad. You will just have to work a lot harder to earn their trust.

If you play with them much, yes they will love you.
but if you just leave them in the cage and not play with them much, it will be hard to hold them by hand

get handfed or handtamed birds. generally by the time you get them they'll either be able to be picked up or not.
