The mustaches are issued with the badges and guns so the officers will look older and tougher. Helps to keep them from getting whupped up on so much. A lot of them come with a crooked nose.

Thank you for asking! - My husband is a cop and wears one too - and I agree it is soooooooo 80's. Another asker said that it is the only facial hair they're permitted to grow; however, this is not necessarily true, it depends on what department they work for. My husband's department also allows goatees - even more 80's! It's definitely a fashion faux pas. Maybe they think if they just wait it out they'll come into fashion again!?!

My Great Great Grandfather was a lawman and had a mustasch in the west. I have one as a lawman because my hair is all gone on top and it is the only place hair will grow.
