Thats what I believe for having cats all my life. However one of my kitten loves to sleep under the blanket. In a hot day his fur gets damp when we touch him. Is he sweating? He is sleeping alone and the humidity can't be transfered by other living thing except himself. He doesn't smell (if cat's sweat smell) his damp fur smell just like fresh linen from the blankie.

the dampness on the kitten, is 'from' the hair itself. (moisture). the 'way' cats sweat, is by panting (sweat through their tongues) and through the pads of their feet.

This question was just asked a couple of hours ago, but, the answer is yes, cats sweat through the pads on their feet, but not through their fur.

His fur may be damp from licking himself.

Cats cool themselves by rapid breathing and by licking their coats. This is why they groom more in warmer weather. As the saliva evaporates from their fur it cools them in a fashion similar to sweat evaporating off of our skin. But once the air temperature is close to, or exceeds, body temperature then the cooling by licking method begins to fail and cats are left with only their tongue 's rapid breathing as a cooling mechanism.
