My ankle piece bothered me the longest too....I finally had to go back to using ointment because it was more soothing and didn't try out as bad as lotion.
Don't let ANYTHING rub on it. I put a Telfa pad over mine and covered it with a sock so nothing would rub against it when I was walking and that helped a lot, too, even though that is not what I was told to do.
After that scab goes and stops "pulling" when you move it, it will be ok.

I have three and I never had any pain for that long, it only lasted about one or two days and it didnt even hurt that bad.. Where exactly did you get it done, if it's on something like your spine, then the pain probably would last a little longer. If your worried though, you should go get it checked out.

Anywhere your body bends, like the ankle, and elbow, and pits of tyour knee and arm, is an area that is going to be an extremely tender place to tattoo. the healing porcess you can expect to be longer then norm....
I got a tattoo in the pit of my elbow, and it took about 3/4 weeks to fully heel, i even had to get on some anti-boitcs, b.c at first i thought it was totally infected, but since i have talked to many people whos tattoos in those areas, have said it a sh*tty place to get tatted and it taked forever to heal, and most tattoos in those areas need touch ups. I used a little vitamin E oil as well to help soften up scabs so i could bend my arm without the scab bursting open everytime!!
If you feel like its infected dont sit around and wait, go see a Dr.it will help put your mind at ease, and call your tatt artist and tell them whats going on,

Definitely due to location (near ankle with lots of movement & not as much fleshy bits) the pain should be more intense than normal. I tried to do squats in the gym after some shoulder work and *yow*, that woke me up.
You're probably not wearing anything over it either - I doubt I would - so the less than usual protection from the elements of that area is likely contributing to the dry skin. With 8 tats you know the drill after this point; I hope it becomes less painful...

i think it's normal. i have had large tattoos on the tops of both of my feet and my first one hurt so bad and i limped around for 12 days before i could walk half way normal! it's just such a sensitive spot and it is so far from the heart that the circulation isn't as good there.

It will last a life time if you get the word "PAIN" tattooed on yourself.
