if you are trying to build muscle do you need to warm up properly (aerobics for 5-10 minutes/ warm up sets) and is it advisable to workout after basketball practice(its pretty intense but not enough for me to be gasping for breath)

Warming up is always a good idea whether it be for lifting, running, or basketball practice. Try a light jog, some gentle stretching or even calisthenics. Warmed up muscles are flexible, pliable and less likely to get injured. Good luck.

5-10 minute warm up is excessive, esp. if your going to work out right after basketball practice.
First off, working out after basketball isnt a bad thing, but it would hurt you in the long run if you dont take proper recovery time ie days off, good diet, and sleep. Thats not a problem.
If youw ant to build muscle, warming up is pretty important sesn you should be going quick explosive work outs (low rep stuff) So doing alot of sets is a ncie way to get around that. Rather than areobic/cardio, which can lead to the break down of muscle if done to much. Your much better off warming up just by doing the workout light fist example: 4x10 on the bench, start pretty light on teh first rep, and then add weight accordingly, dont be shy to do a 5th set. Dont break 6 with high rep however.
Next, if your going into a workout right after basketball practice, there is almot no need to wamrup at all, sense your blood is already circulating nicly through the body. Hope i awsner your quesiotn thoroughly
P.S stretching is such a thing of the past, look up anything about stretching when it coems to strength gains, nobody does it. Its been proven by several sources that stretching in almost no way helps prevent injury. And if your try to lifty heavy, stretching has also been proved to hurt your lift. You temperaily weaking your muscle that way.
