I've seen it before when I was a photographer apprentice.
My trainer photographer had this lightstand that had automatic legs.
The legs would set themselves up when the lightstand was set to the ground and fold back in when the lightstand was lifted off the ground. I need to now where to get it.

Even the best and most expensive cameras will not change what a person looks like. The camera sees what it sees. Often professionals will use a post-production photo-editing software program like photoshop or some other to exploit the "prettyness" of the subect. Like softening the skin, color correcting and many more. Other conditions like lighting also play a crucial role in how a person will look in the outcome.
