what is the age gap supposed to be between Brother bear, and sister bear (bearenstein bears)?

I think they are about a year or so apart, but this is questionable. In the book where Sister Bear was born, it seemed that Brother Bear was about 3-4 years older. But when she starts Kindergarten, he is in first grade, indicating they are a year apart. It is not consistent.
